Hi all!

My pig Eddie is an absolute nightmare when it comes to nail trimming, specifically his front feet. The back ones are no issue with a small bribe. But the front ones - no way.

He absolutely freaks out when you try and touch his front feet so I resorted to tempting him with a treat so that he put his feet up on the side of his cage and I was doing one or two nails a day. He’s now got wise to this and won’t stand there long enough! Cheeky!

Any tips on approaching this, maybe desensitising him so I can do it? He’s been handled daily since he was a tiny baby but has never gotten used to it even though he’s almost 1. I suspect he’s got some lasting damage from the bullying he had from his previous cage mate, poor lad.

TIA.

One of my boys is a total drama queen when it comes to nail trimming, he wriggles, nips, pulls his foot away and SCREAMS.....
All this before I've even trimmed any nails! 🙄
After months of just getting a couple of nails done at a time I decided to get them done at the vets. Personally I like that he gets checked over at the same time as he's a satin.
My other boy (who has black nails) is good as gold, he even sploots his back legs out for me ❤️
He's not a proper guinea pig though as he makes everything easy.

Yep sounds like Eddie! He just absolutely will not have it! I have managed to sneakily do a couple of toes tonight but the one I really need to do is the one he won’t let me near! He’s not in any pain….he’s just all about the drama! 🙄 I shall keep trying with the relevant lettuce tax!
