So Luna has been on isathal now twice a day for a little over a week.

Her eye does look better in that it looks bigger, brighter and more open now. So it's clearly doing something.

However she still has a lot of the yellow crust around her eye.

Should this have cleared too by now?

Vet said if it's not improved in a week come back, it's been a week and it has improved but still not completely cleared. He said to use the isathal for 2 to 3 weeks total.

Anybody have any more advice? I saw it mentioned on here to try using artificial tear gel after the isathal has been absorbed so its then more effective. Thanks.

I would return for a recheck at the vet's. I think it's better safe than sorry with their little eyes. Hope you can get it checked soon, maybe a change in drops will sort it out properly?

If you are still seeing yellow crusts, I would have her back at the vets. Was it a hay poke injury or eye infection?

No idea. She already had the crusty eye when we took her in. Worried she may have had it a while. She had it when we took her beginning of March and I spoke to their previous owner and she said that yeah she's had it before and she just bathed the eye until it went.... so she might have just been washing away the crusts but the infection was still there perhaps 🤷🏻‍♀️

I‘m currently treating one of my piggies for a hay poke injury with Isathal and Lubrithal. It‘s working very well in treating eye injuries and speeds up the healing process but I‘m not sure if it would do much for an infection. I don‘t think it necessarily makes the Isathal more effective but helps the eye to heal quicker by keeping it from drying out. So if there‘s no injury to the eye I‘m not sure how much value it would add? Might be worth having a chat with your vet about it :) I hope Luna‘s eye will clear up soon!

I would take her back to the vet. I use Viscotears too with any piggy who has haypoke. It lubricates the eye and does exactly the same as lubrithal but is a lot cheaper. I get it from Boots and its about a fiver. Just don't tell them it's for your guinea pig. The viscotears should be administered half an hour after whatever the vet gives you for the eye.

Sounds like an eye infection. The eye drops should heal it
