Poor little Isabelle isn't any better. She finished 7 days of Baytril yesterday and the 4 days of Metacam. She loves the taste of the Pro C probiotic I have been putting in their water. They both love it actually. She has gained weight from 1077g to 1125g! She hasn't ever been so heavy. Hoping it is weight rather than fluid. She is eating and drinking normally but isn't moving around so much and unsurprisingly seems exhausted all the time. Today I totally disinfected the cage and have put them back onto fleece. I haven't been able to do that up until now. The vet has given her more Baytril today and if she isn't any better by Friday she will have to go back. The vet today wanted to leave her without any antibiotics for a few days to see if she improves now she is on fleece but I wasn't comfortable with that knowing how quickly piggies can deteriorate. He said he hasn't been able to see the back of her throat and is considering sedation and xray if no better by Friday to see if there is anything causing an obstruction. I don't think it sounds like that, and sedation is worrying, so hoping she will be better by Friday. Dear little girl

It sounds like you are doing everything possible for her.
Is the vet experienced with cavies?
Have they looked for other issues and checked her heart?
Heart problems can also result in fluid build up and breathing issues so maybe something to consider.

Thank you. I think he said he listened to her heart when I took her there last week. If she isn't any better by Friday I will check that. I had a dog who had fluid build up because of her heart with a heart valve problem. They aren't specialist cavy vets but because they now have quite a few on their books they have massively improved their knowledge. We live rurally. Our nearest specialist cavy vet is quite a journey away. Will see how she goes this week and if I think it needed I will take her to the specialist next week. I don't think she would be comfortable for the journey though. She hasn't ever spent that amount of time travelling.

Piggies can cope surprisingly well with long journeys. Good luck with her.
