Our new boy Frank is the noisiest pig we have ever had, he wheeks 24 hours a day even whilst eating his fresh food so it got us thinking how do they wheek ?

They can wheek without opening their mouths. However, if they want to be EVEN LOUDER, they open their mouths.

what I have observed is its through their mouth cos their mouth opens wider the louder the wheeeek - I also ADORE when they wheek cos their little ears shudder and flap back and forth LOL hehehehe:(|)

My piggy Walter is the same way. He wheeks the loudest when I'm giving my bunnies treats.. I think he gets jealous. :p

hehehe thats funny LOL Sunnypig LOL :(|)

Everytime I open the fridge or rustle carrier bags mine wheeeeeeeeeeeeek loud

If I even so much as move towards the basil growing on our patio my two boys wheek like mad, I swear you could hear them in the next street!

It is their favourite thing in the world to eat - I am worried I may lose a finger :))

Some pigs are really 'chatty'- my late pig Frenzy was a constant wheeker, but not very loud- it was like she was talking to us. Our pig Sundae is a LOUD wheeker... we can hear her two floors up sometimes! In her case I think it is through her mouth as I can see the mouth open when she's shouting for food... when she really gets into it, she wheeks so hard that her ears move! LOL!

I have a boy who never utters a word unless he's annoyed, he lets his ladies do the talking for him :))

I have three others who are incredibly chatty, one of which, if you leave her on her own away from the guineas qill think nothing of screaming the place down whilst on your lap and watching the telly, until she is safely returned to the herd....rolleyes Naughty girl.

I have noticed many different sounds that they make from chirping, squeaking, mewing, wheeking, grunting....not hear growling yet must say but all sorts..

I know however that there is trouble brewing when I get a full on 'whistle'. They seem to build up to this and suck in air before letting rip, seems to be different from the other sounds and usually is a sign of intense annoyance rather than fear.....have many others experienced this?

I have to share this funny story....I do have one who is not shy in showing her emotions (well I know that now) I was a little inexperienced at the time and unbeknown to me she was a little....shall we say annoyed at another guinea being introduced into the herd.

One morning I went to give them all their breakfast and she just screamed and screamed all morning, if I picked her up it became even more violent (the full on take a big breath and whistle)... typically it was a Sunday and I really panicked thinking something was very wrong with her.

SO rushed her off to the emergency vet.... all the while she was happily mewing away in her box now away from the others and with 'her' mummy. She was poked, prodded, scanned the lot (vet was brilliant)...for nearly an hour and the vet found nothing wrong with her....all the time she was mewing away very happily enjoying all the fuss.

Got her home and she was fine. Spoke to a very experienced guinea person who understands thier little quirks, who said she was just expressing her annoyance at having the herd disturbed (she is lead pig). So I paid £200 just becuase she was annoyed! I have never let her live that down...naughty girl. She's six now and still has her tantrums but now I know why inbreeding

I have a cracking video of my Bella wheeking! and it's most definatly through her mouth, she opens it WIDE! every time a packet us opened, Bella and her bnrother Luigi go nuts :)) Big Dave doesn't really wheek much and peppa's still a bit shy bless her
