At the moment because of the time period for being able to introduce now neutered male with my female. I have the pigs side by side and with the outdoor runs. But the boy has is on constant 'hamster' mission gnawing the bars. He seems happy to have a friend nearby and I have seen him do popcorns. I'm just wondering is this winding him up being near her? I don't want him constantly gnawing. He's got 5wks to wait untill he can be with her.

Cage gnawing is a normal reaction - he wants to be with her, of course! However, that should settle down a good deal except for when she is in season for a day or two.

Being next to each other during the safety wait and being able to interact through the bars will facilitate acceptance and bonding when they are finally being introduced. They will hopefully be best friends through the bars by then and both are much happier with having each other for next door company than being separated.

Thanks for for that. Also I was told to swap bedding like bits of hay and toys for each other's smell. I've read tons of stuff and done alot of research. I figure this is the best place to ask than any other.

I swap bedding between piggies that I want to pair up.Works for me.Also if I am introducing a new girl into my herd I rub her with hay from the litter trays before putting her in.Has worked every time.
