I have lots of this weed growing all over the lawn. They come up as single shoots and if left to grow look a bit fern like.

Does anybody know what they are please and if it is OK for guinea pigs to eat?

At the moment I have to pick them all before placing down the runs.

Thank you
Claire

hi i too have these growing in my garden but usually down the sides of the fence my neighbour told me what they were called once but i cant remember now i wouldent chance feeding them to my piggies

Hi

Thanks. I''ve checked out all the plants mentioned on the links so far but they don't match.

They don't have leaves that are separate from what I have pictured, they are just shoots.

Ah right I thouht they looked like plantain shoots. Odd one. If we cna get a name for it we can look it up! :)

hi my neighbour said it is called field horsetail or mares tail the picture you have put on line is before the weed head brisles out like a brush i looked it up online and it said it was a common garden weed that flourishes on damp soil and that it is toxic to sheep cattle and horses so definetly poisonus

Thank you ever so much, this is certainly the one. What a complete pain in the backside this will be as the details are :

TOXICITY RATING: High for horses, moderate for other species.

ANIMALS AFFECTED: Horses are the species most affected, cattle and sheep may be affected, but this occurs rarely.

DANGEROUS PARTS OF PLANT: All parts, both fresh and dried.

CLASS OF SIGNS: Weight loss, weakness, gait abnormalities, abnormal heart rate and/or rhythm, inability to rise, death.
