hi All

We have just taken our new Guinea's we have

Crackle - Mum
Peppa - Baby
Mollie - on her own and also a rex

When we collected them from their previous home they we transported in a hamster cage with no issues.

Now in the proper home (indoor cage from previous owner) they appear to have settled ok (this is the second day) but Crackle will sometimes jump and chase Mollie for a few seconds.

Mollie herself makes little noises when Crackle goes to close and seem timid.

We have put it down to being in a new home and are just making there mark in the cage.

Cheers

guinea pigs will always take time to settle down, when moving from one house to another sometimes they feel the need to re-assert their dominance, this is nothing to worry about and is normal.

Even an established group in the same setting will often peck at eachother, like I said previously, its just re-asserting dominance.

In a new situation or new surroundings, every group has to re-establish their hierarchy. give them time to get their bearings; it will take a few days to weeks!

Rumbling, some soft teeth chattering, nipping (with loud protests from the injured party) and chasing somebody away are part of the dominance display. Top sow gets the choice of everthing she wants from food to sleeping accommodation. Once they have settled in, they will be "chirping" fine. when you see them running around like mad or jumping, you know that they are happy!
