last week i got two new boy piggies. they are apparently 12 weeks old but i think the small one is actually only about 4 weeks old!

i took them out last night so that they could run around the floor and the slightly bigger one of the two started humping the little one. he was properly going for it! :)p

is this normal? it's been so long since i had boy guinea pigs i don't know.

i double checked to make sure the little one was a boy and he is :)

any help grately appreciated

thanks

Cat :)

Well you're absolutely sure ?

LOL it's a boar thing too rolleyes our two boars used to do it constantly it was only one that did it...he was the alpha boar :))
Keep an eye on it, make sure the little one has no bites or anything as it can get a bit rough :(
Oh and you might have the yukky job of cleaning up the little one too just gently wipe off any glue the older/bigger one might leave rolleyes
Have you got piccies of these two little darlings? x)x)

thanks guys :)

i have read the thread about boy piggies and it was very useful. my two boys don't have names yet. the little one had a massive scab on his ear when i got him, it seems to have fallen off yesterday and now he has a massive chunk missing from his ear. he seems to have been picked on a few times. i don't think its by the bigger boar i now have, i just think it was the other boars that were in with them when i chose them, although i am keeping an eye on them.

do you think when they are older i could get them castrasted and try them with my three girls?

thanks again

Mine used to do it all the time. It's normal.

But yeah, just keep an eye on them to make sure they don't get too rough.
They should be fine, though. Mine used to squabble all the time, they'd constantly be mounting each other and now it's stopped all together.

Just give them a couple months and they might calm down a bit, but as of right now, it's nothing to worry about.
It's when they start actually attacking each other, that's when you need to look out.
But as a wise person on another forum once told me "Have patience and don't worry unless blood is drawn."
And it's true.

Good luck and post pictures, if you can!

thanks guys :)

If they don't get along together in the long term, it might be a good idea; cross gender pairings usually work very well.

I wouldn't have my girls without a neutered boy - he may be still randy, but he also diverts a lot of grumpiness when the sows are in season by doing what a man was born to do!
