It’s a bit hard to tell from the photo. What do you think looks different? Does it look like her other eye? Is it crusty, watering, dry? If you’re worried, there’s no harm in taking her to the vet to check it out. Eye treatment is the same for all animals so she can be seen by a general vet.

It looks the same as the other eye. Just looks dark around it. Maybe slightly crusty. Not sure if its normal as I'm a first time guinea parent. It's like having a first baby when you're all anxious about them.

I had a piggy that had mites and he lost some hair around his eye. If you're worried I’d mention it to the vet. How are you treating the mites? I had to use xeno every two weeks for six weeks (so three treatments in all). Does she live with another piggy? If so they will need treatment too.

Oh thank you. That would make alot of sense then. I'm treating with xeno and also treating the other piggy. I have just received my order of lice and easy so I'm going to use that too.

Hello Nala, aren't you lovely 💕

I'm just butting in here because I'm not sure you can use the gorgeous guinea's lice and easy shampoo on piggies under 12 weeks old - pls check the instructions tho as I've not had it myself so I might be talking out of my hat. TBH I've only ever shampoo'd piggies who turned out to have a fungal infection and been prescribed a medicated shampoo by the vet. If we've had dirty bum problems they just get a quick bottom end dip rather than the full works. Piggies don't really like being shampoo'd so it's not a 'treat' for them. I actually once lost a very old girl who snuffed up a single drop of rinse water and promptly developed a resp infection that took her so fast we didn't have time to get treatment so it's something I'm paranoid about.

I've treated with xeno pretty regularly (as whenever we've had a new addition they seem to bring something in with them!) and we've never washed them afterwards... they just sort themselves out because it's something you have to spot onto bare patches of skin (rather than rubbing into fur) so after a day of looking a bit like a startled pineapple they're back to normal (but less itchy). Did your vet prescribe the xeno? I'm just thinking your piggy is young and therefore little. I've only ever had adults (and usually big fat ones too!) so we've always only had to consider the bodyweight when dosing with xeno, rather than the age.

My piggy Zara is currently on syringe food because of toothy issues and her eyes look a bit smaller and more watery than usual because she's not feeling so great, but she's taking her syringe OK. Both Zara'a eyes look the same. If one looks different from the other that's when I worry. Zara got an eye injury a few weeks back (a grass seed got stuck in it) and I didn't spot it for hours because she kept her good eye towards me and her painful one hidden. Is Nala keeping the suspect eye turned away from you? If she is it's a clue that it might need attention. Apparently fish do it too... a guy who ran an aquarium showed me a huuuge fish they had with only one eye, but said most people never realised because Fishy hid his weak spot from them!

Good luck Nala and friend, and I hope your mites clear up soon x

Hiya.. I did message the lady at gorgeous guineas.. she said the advice not to use on under 12 weeks in due to the people willy nilly bathing their pigs and she advised to go ahead. Mine are on xeno 50 mini as they are so small. I wasn't sure if they needed a bath because they have static mites so wasn't 100% the xeno would get them. I know they don't like or need bathing often and would only do so if necessary.

Really sorry about your piggie

Nala is also currently being syringe fed due to a missing tooth! That's really interesting, she isn't moving her eve away from me or anything so I'm guessing that's good. Both eyes also look the same.

Nalas friend is Storm :) sorry I didn't mention x

Update.. Nala this morning has been struggling to breathe (visible sucking in and out of her sides). She will not take the critical care from a syringe and have only managed to get 1ml of water and 0.5 ml critical care into her. She has a vets appointment later on today. When I pick her up to try and give her food/water she squeaks. I'm so worried 😢 Is there anything else I can be doing?

If she's struggling to breathe I don't think she can wait until later today. I would try to get her into an emergency vet appointment

Poor Nala. I hope the vet can help her. 🤞. Can you call them up and ask to be seen earlier as you are so worried about her?

I've got a toddler sleep upstairs and no was of getting both there at the moment but I'm trying

Good luck at the vet.
I wanted to add that it does sound urgent so I am glad you could have her seen earlier.
We are thinking of you and lovely Nala

There is nothing they can do for her. They said she won't cope with the medication. They said with or without treatment she won't make 24 hrs. Advised PTS

My message sounds so cold but my heart hurts. Thank you to all that advised on this thread. My little Nala has crossed the rainbow Bridge and I tried my best for her.

So sorry for your loss. It sounds like you did everything you could for her. Thinking of you during this difficult time.
