I put my older pig peanut together today with my baby cheese...peanut is nearly one and cheese is 5 weeks old.
All went surprisingly well, no nastiness at all.
So they have been together for about 5hrs now.
They are lying together and eating together, but now they are both trying to hump each other!
I expected it from peanut but cheese is doing it too...is that normal for such a young Guinea pig to hump the older one? Or does it mean they will possibly fall out in future as they both have dominant personalities?
They are not biting, fighting, teeth chattering or rumblestrutting, they are now happily eating hay together.washing themselves, peanut even laid out flat and went to sleep at one point and cheese went and sat next to him.

Hi!

This is perfectly normal and actually mild behaviour for boars. Acceptance has happened but they are now in the dominance phase where they are going to work out the shape of their relationship over the next two weeks or so.

Please leave them in the bonding pen for a while longer so they can get the worst out of their system before moving to the cage.

Please take the time to read our very comprehensive bonding guide, which also covers the post-intro dominance phase: Bonding and Interaction: Illustrated social behaviours and bonding dynamics

This sounds great! And I love that you kept cheese for a name - its fab!

When my baby boar Gregory was introduced to my older boar Domino last year Gregory did nothing but hump him in the bonding pen and forever after. Certainly not the other way round. Domino just moved away or gave him a gentle fatherly nip to say "get lost you irritant". Never impacted the bond they had though 😊.

Cheese looks so titchy and cuddly in that pic 😍

I have put them both in their cage now because they were in my kitchen and everybody wants feeding now lol,I washed all the bedding and hideys as it was peanuts cage, they are having dinner now😍
Hopefully all my pigs will be in their new shed soon weather permitting 🙄
