Hi,

I've decided my piggie will be living outside for the summer, and my dad wants her outside. She loves being outside, especially on the grass so it would be wrong of me to keep her indoors all times. She has always lived outside in the past throughout the summer.

However I need to buy her a new hutch and run. Since my rabbit have got the current hutch and her 20ft run however I will not put them two together at all, for obvious reasons. My dad said it's not a problem to put them two together :x :red However they are my pets therefore my responsibility and he will agree with whatever I decide which is a good thing.

ANyway I found this on e-bay and I thought this is a bargain.

Nevertheless, is this suitable and big enough for Revolver, also is the ramp too steep for her? Would you agree that run is big enough for her, so it’s not needed to extend the run?

I’m hoping in the summer I will adopt another piggy for Revolver. If my dad will let me – hopefully. I don’t see why he shouldn’t as they will be living outside, with plenty of space. Currently she’s indoors in the garage at the moment, due to cold weather throughout winter. That’s why my dad said no more pets. But we shall see.

I just want what’s best for Revolver. She is 5 at the moment, so I want her to enjoy her life as much as she can.

Let me know what you think, I’d appreciate it.
Thanks,
Lessie

hey you were both up late! lol (its the only time i get any peace :(|))
i think that looks fab although I'm no expert on whats best for piggies by anymeans but I'm sure someone with more experience will soon let you know :)
if its any help i saw one which i thought looks exactly like this in Jolleys not sure were you live so heres a link to their site hopefully it will tell you were your nearest store is http://www.jollyes.co.uk/ at least you will be able to have a good old look round it in the shop and compare the price to the one on ebay (so sorry i cant remember how much it was i think i must be getting old ;) !) i dont know about you but i much prefer to be able to see something right in front of me before i buy it as i dont always feel confident about buying something as expensive as this based on a photograph but then that could just be me! :)) hth

I think you just need to check on what the internal measurement of the upstairs living area is. Over the winter this would be their only living space. Looks like the depth is just over 1m and the width is less. I think 4ft x 2ft is the minimum recommended for guinea pigs.
The only problem with chicken coops is that the whole of the top area of the run is wasted space.

I've just re-read your message and see that guinea lives indoors in the winter. I'd still be concerned that she might not have enough indoor room on poor weather days or overnight.

I would email them and ask about the size of the "hutch" section measurements as if you want to rehome another piggy you definitely want it to be the minimum or 4ft by 2ft, I would also consider putting sides on the ramp for added safety.

A lot of these hen house styles are quite small in the hutch section. You may be better looking for a conventional style hutch with or without an attached run.

It looks okay to me although I would be concerned about the ramp as it looks a little steep. As lovelygirl has said, you would have to put sides on to the ramp as if she fell off from the top, she could be seriously injured or even killed.

Sorry its me again....

How about this one?

I've worked out the bedroom department including the nest box, and the total size is 4.2ft x approx 3ft. This matches the minimum size for a pair of guinea-pigs. In addition the run is 9ft x 3ft.

So overall it seems okay to me however what do you think?

If this is suitable, I will of course put felt on the ladder, so it's not slippery, also insert a wall on each sides so that it's safe.

Lastly would a guinea-pig rescue accept/approve this accomodation if I wanted to adopt one of their piggies?

Thank-you,
Lessie

It's a lovely hutch and run, the only thing I think is that on a horrible day there isn't much light going into the sheltered bit.

20ft seems quite long, could they not share the run if you separated it in half? And put a hutch in her half?

Just a thought.

Just a thought you can get a set up that is a giant run split in the middle with a hutch on either side of the divide that would mean you could have both in one unit!

We had this sort of set up when I was a kid. A hutch at each end of the run with a divider down the middle of the run so the piggies could chat. The hutches were separate to the run so in the winter they could be taken into the utility room.

Yes thats the kind of thing! Means that the piggies and the rabbit can see each other but they will not be in together!
