Is This Hutch Ok?

Looking at the measurements it is okay for two piggies but not three.

I was told that it was suitable for 4 piggies! Because the rspca recommend 5ft for 2 pigs and this is a double 5ft?.. x

I got mixed up with this two, it's has to all be on one level, the extra levels don't count towards the floor space because guinea pigs are roamers so will stay on one level rather than climb. :)

Welcome to the forum. I am glad you are doing your research before going ahead and getting guinea pigs.

If I were you, I would think again about keeping them outside over winter. I have had guinea pigs for a year now. They are outdoors in a hutch in the summer and my OH wanted me to keep them outside in the winter too. Fortunately, this didn't happen ! Winter temperatures are too cold in the UK . Also, you have to think how easy it will be to clean them out if they are outside in a hutch with a cover.

The only way mine will go outdoors 24/7 is if I win the lottery and can afford to have an insulated shed built.

I have a similar problem with the size of my 2 tier hutch. Mine is only 4ft wide and I was told I could keep up to 3 guinea pigs in it.To get round this problem, I have had a run made to fit on the front and back .

Thanks everyone, you have made some very good points the cover is this one. I had guinea pigs 2 years ago and I adored them, they were indoors for 90% of their life but in the last year I got hold of a hutch(5ft x 2ft) and they lived in it for a year and their personalities changed so so much, even in winter:

Guineapigsecretsuk(youtube) has the same hutch with 5 pigs in?

Am I right regarding the cover, not getting it until October?..

Thanks

I understand what you mean. When you see some of the hutches that are for sale - the one you are looking at is a mansion!

I hope you find the information on this forum useful in helping you with your final decision.

My guinea pigs use their two floors no problem. They love the ramp. So I brought them a two tier hutch. Not a problem. I think it depends on your piggies

Are you looking at getting 3 females? Boar trios may not work :( I've always had pairs if girls but this time I have 3 girls & there is usually one that's left out. Three's a crowd & all that :)
