Hey guys, I'm new here:xd: I've had two piggies in the past but sadly they passed away two years ago, I've decided to get another guinea pig:yahoo: I've threw out all my old cages and equipment so I've been searching for large cages which are still quite cheap, the picture won't upload because of my iPad but it's the mid west guinea pig habitat plus, its 8 square feet but I was looking for opinions from more experienced piggy owners. I'm also open to other cage recommendations:D ps I'm not looking at c&c cages because it's very hard to find them where I'm from.

I have a Ferplast 120cm cage which i house my two 10 month old sows in for indoors in the winter. They have an outdoor hutch and run in the summer. I got it for a great price on the zooplus website. Second winter I've used it and still very sturdy. Ideally I would love the 140cm to give them a bit more space but don't have the room. They come out for floor time in a pop up puppy playpen which works well. Hope this helps?

Thank you! I'll go check it out just now

I use the midwest cage and I absolutely love it. I just have the regular one not the plus so that they have more floor space.. I have a small herd of four so I actually have three of the midwest cages connected together.. They are easy to clean and secure.

Would one of the cages be suitable for two guinea pigs? I thought about buying the plus because it has the roof because I have a dog (she is very friendly) and I was worried she would put her head in and sniff about and startle the piggies, if you don't mind me asking, where abouts did you purchase your cage?

Yes one is the minimum requirement for two piggies so it's suitable. The lid would probably be better if you have a curious dog. Both of my dogs are kept in a seperate room unless I'm with them.. I'm not sure how hard the lid is to get on or off though so I'm no help there lol. I bought all my cages on amazon as they had the best prices when I was shopping.

I've saw the cage on pet planet for £65 but I've also saw cages just as big for about £40 so I'm not sure anymore

I love that set up too, the only reason I went for the Ferplast was because of the double easy front opening making it so easy to clean... I have a neck injury so have my cage raised up on two filing cabinets and this makes it the perfect height.

I'm really struggling with what cage to buy now XD I've been looking at the ferplast casita 120 and the skyline maxi Xxl cage

I agonised for months so know what you mean, I was stuck choosing between the ferplast 120cm and the skyline maxi too!? Look at the amount of headroom above the feeding platform in the ferplast. It's a great height even now mine are fully grown. I have room on it for two additional bowls of food as well as the one that comes with the shelf/platform and both guineas still have room to eat. Mine found the steps steep so tend to hop up when young and I now use a bendy wooden arch as a step up for them. In the end, you will not find the absolutely spot on perfect forever cage necessarily first time, I am learning to make compromises, consider what is most important for the piggies and invent/adapt to find solutions to housing problems. Seed trays for hay, cardboard boxes, loo roll inner tubes all make great cage/run additions and cost virtually nothing. This forum has taught me loads. Happy shopping!

Thanks so much, I think I will get it, random question but is the base of the cage a dark grey in person?

i have a ferplast 120 and it's fine for 2 girls if you have the option of getting them out for lots of floor time! If not then get a bigger cage! Always get the biggest you can afford/fit in. Our girls rarely go in their cage now as we have a puppy pen set up that they live in now

Would it be suitable for two boys? Thanks x
