Been looking for a new cage and wanted to try a C&C cage for a change!
I have 3 guinea pigs at the moment (females) and 2 are 10 weeks old so are still pretty young. Would that cage be okay? Should I be worried about the loft area? Should I just have one withought the floor? Should it be bigger?

I am totally new to C&C cages so you will need to explain in detail why etc. etc. -c

Thats about the right size, the rule tends to be 2x4 for 2 pigs, 2x5 for 3, 2x6 for 4 and so on, but obviously the bigger the better so don’t just stick to minimum if you have the space and money try to expand.

When you say ‘floor’ i assume you mean the correx (yellow) base ? and if thats the case then it’s a big yes, the base will keep the urine from soaking through to your carpet and hold whatever bedding you choose to use along with all the poops inside.

C&C Cages are great because you can make them whatever size and shape you want and you can also always expand as you can buy all the materials separately (which is sometimes cheaper) I’m sure your piggies will be happy in this cage! :) Although be aware the yellow base just sits inside the grid frame and has nothing attaching it to the grids.

I think 3 girls would need a 6x2 at least.I have 4 girls in a 5x3.Originally in 5x2 and was advised to make it bigger. I don.t have a floor just a ground sheet then pupoy pads then fleece and towel and fleece where they wea but they are more or less litter trained. If * are using bedding you will need correx so it has sides to keep the bedding in.Not sure about the ramps with babies Hope this helps.

2x5 is perfectly OK for three piggies. If you can afford a larger pen spacewise, go for it.

You can use correx, which I use for my two table cages. For my two large pens on the floor, I have bought an offcut of laminate, which is easy to keep clean and to disinfect. It has the disadvantage that poo and hay tend to spill over.

You don't need a hay loft if you don't want. Mine have seed trays or old cage bottoms instead, so the hay doesn't spill all over. the good thing about a C&C cage is that you can enlarge and modify it at your will, so you can always change it to your current needs.

I'm sorry, I meant should I just have one without the loft area!

Does anyone know where I can find a C&C cage that is 6x2? On that site I was on, 5x2 was the biggest they had.
I am wanting to fleece it (:

You can just buy the grids and make it yourself, for a 6x2 you’d need 16 grids which is easily done as this kit provides 26, giving you space to expand.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pet-Cage-Ru...=UTF8&qid=1381915862&sr=8-4&keywords=C&C+cage

or theres this kit with 20 grids.

You can then connect them in any shape you wish. You’d still need to buy a base though which can be purchased through most local sign shops, all you need to do is measure how long your cage would be and then add about 6†or 7†to create the side. This explains it a bit better.

Hope that helps :)

The grids from Amazon and the grids from that website are exactly the same grids just sold on different sites as different packages. They try to sell it as a cage, so that you spend more on it because it seems easier than just buying the grids on their own, which isn’t true.
It’s like when you go to tesco and you can either buy a cake mix or you can buy all the ingredients, by buying all the ingredients you can make a lot more for a fraction of the cost, but by buying the ready made mix it just seems easier!

The cage sold on the website doesn't come with a base or anything so it’s the same concept and works out a lot cheaper just to buy the grids separate from amazon and make it up yourself, either way you still need to buy a base and put it all together.

Okay (:

How big could I make the cage if I buy the amazon grids? Like, the maximum size for..
Max size for a single level:
Max size for a single level and loft:

8x2 without a loft I think. The good thing about c&c is you can adapt the shape to the space * nwed.B&q sell correx Might be called coroplast there

So is correx and coroplast the same material? (corragated plastic)

I was thinking of making an L shape.
Should I have one with a loft or not? My young pigs are rather active and popcorn all the time. I don't know if I should incase they fall...
Oh, how do you attach the ramp?(If I was to make one with a loft) I am a little confused on that.

Correx is known as lots of things, corrugate plastic, corotherm, coroplast, it depends on the brand but yes all the same thing, you need it at about 4mm thickness ideally.

B&Q do stock it although it’s often cheaper if you just go into local sign makers shops, or some people even recycle old for sale boards from estate agencies etc.

I personally really like having a loft. It means i can keep the food separate from their play area so i have their hay rack, nuggets and water bottle up there. Don’t forget if you have an upper level to include enough grids for a floor as well, as obviously on an upper level it will need something to keep the base (correx) up.

For my ramp, i bought some square guttering and lined it with a carpet floor tile from B&Q, just hot glued it on and then drilled two holes in the top and attached it with cable ties. Lots of people reinforce the cubes and little clips that come with them with extra cable ties just to keep it secure. I personally just use cable ties and no clips.

So with 26 grids you could have at max a 10x3 or 11x2 with no upper level. Or something like an 7x2 with a 1x2 loft depending on the shape you want. I don’t think you’d have enough grids for a 8x2 with 1x2 loft.

It’s often good to look at what other people have made to get some ideas on what you want. So heres an example of my cage. It’s 2 cages combined for 3 pigs in total.

It comprises of on the lowest floor, a 2x2 for one piggy, then bedside him a range of storage for all my piggy things, above that there is the main 2x4 cage for my 2 boys, that also has a 1x2 loft with my gutter ramp. This took a lot of grids as you can imagine as i chose to make my stand out of grids.

I think in total there is 46 grids roughly, and that involved buying two packs from Amazon.

Like you said you can expand all the time, my first cage was just the 2x4 with 1x2 loft and stand i’ve only recently added the 2x2 cage for my loan piggy. The best thing to do is look at the space you have and just draw different designs that would fit that area, taking ideas from things you like about other peoples cages. Hope that helps.

Yes, thats helpful. Thankyou :)

I think what I am going to do, is save up for the grids and everything else, then make one with as much floor space as possible. I am not really bothered with the loft (just makes it look more intresting) but I know that guineas need a lot of floor space. So i'm just going to make the biggest I can with 26 grids so my girls (babies especially) can popcorn all day long!

I am also going to get a whole new load of toys etc so I am thinking of saving £70-£80 so I can buy everything at once. (:

That sounds like a great plan, i spent about 2 months planning exactly what i wanted for my cage and finding the best places to buy the products, then for christmas i just asked for money so that i could make my piggies cage. It meant i was able to have a really nice set up with everything i wanted when i wanted it and it was just perfect. It’s great seeing a plan come together, Good luck!

Yes, I feel like planning will be best, rather than just rushing into it all (:

Dindypig, yes I have looked there. I feel that its cheaper to buy all the parts seperate and making my own, rather than buying a set up one.
Thanks :)

I just recently made my pigs a C&C cage and got 3 8x4 sheets for £34.99 from ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Correx-Sh...t=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item232ee371c3

Ooohhh, this is useful. Thankyou (:
How big is your cage and does it have a loft? Sorry, its just I want to know how much I should buy.

I'm not buying anything yet, but I will keep this link saved so I can buy it when I am making the cage.
Just spent £28 on a vet bill-Now I have no money :(
I am going to be saving up for the grids!

(I really need a job...)

Just thought I would say something about connecting the grids. You can use the connectors or cable ties.I have a cage with cable ties and one with connectors. The thing I love about my cages are that I can sit in them with my girls and they wander around me eating from my hand or right beside me.I have fleece and litter trays. They tend to pee and poo under cover so I peg fleece over where the litter trays are.You can alsp bend grids to make hay racks and tunnels.
