Is this cage and run suitable?

Hey. I dont have guinea pigs yet but am going to be getting some very soon (I hope!)

I would like to keep them inside and have found this cage. Its the biggest one I can find.
They would only be in the cage at night time when I am in bed.

In the daytime (as I am at home most of the day) they will either be getting cuddles from me! Or in this run, inside or outside depening on the weather.

So I have a few questions.....
1. Is that cage big enough for 2 or maybe 3 guinea pigs?
2. Is that run big enough?
3. If either of them are too small/unsuitable could you please tell me where to get suitable cages/runs from?

I would eventually like to build c&c's so I can have a few guinea pigs in those as they look awesome! But right now a ready built cage and run would be easiest for me.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

They are perfect for 2 - I have heard it isn't successful having 3 pigs as they may fight (unless you get all sows).

Nice choice, that cage is an absolute bargain. 8;)

The cage is okay for 2 guinea pigs but not 3.

The run is enormous and brilliant!

You can get a 150cm cage it's a fair but more expensive but well worth the money and that would suit 3. I got mine from Dabners and they do superfast delivery plus they sell the cage and the stand.

I am sure once they have mastered the ramp, it would be good for them to have an upstairs and downstairs so they have their own space. My two argue sometimes and I may get that one myself eventually. :)

ok I'm gonna go order that one then!

Just one more question (sorry for all the questions!)
When I first put the guinea pigs in the cage should I put them in the top bit or the bottom bit? Or doesn't it really matter?
*** one pet shop told me years ago when I got rabbits that I should always put them up the top of a cage or they would never realise there was a top half!

I'm not sure they would use that ramp. It looks a bit steep and it also doesn't have any sides on it to prevent them from falling off (I had one fall only a short distance from a ramp WITH sides). You need to be very careful with ramps to make them work.

if you could adapt the ramp to have sides and proper grip you may get them to use it.

You could also adapt the first cage you looked at and give that an upstairs with a bit of work. That way you design it and make sure the ramp is safe and not too steep and has proper grip.

To be honest I don't really think it matters. :)

My hammy has a 3 tier cage and I put exciting things on top to entice him up. As long as you have something interesting on both floors (like veg!), they won't mind what floor they are on and I bet they will eventually have their favourite. :)

Edit: Listen to Lisa because she has more knowledge and experience than me!

AWWW you're sweet!

This cage would work great for more surefooted rodents just not for guineas. It looks so cool though it's easy to see why people are enticed.

I'm sure we have a member on here who bought this and ended up just using one floor as they wouldn't use the ramp. I wouldn't either if I were a guinea they aren't the best climbers and will definitely fall off that ramp at some time.

ah ok. I dont want any guinea pig accidents with that ramp.
Thank you both very much for your help.
I will get the 1st cage I looked at.

okies, thanks for that reply. My brother will be able to put some sides on the ramp for me and cover it in fleece.
I think I might get both cages because now I'm unsure which to get! And if the guinea pigs are ok in the 2 story cage they can stay in that and if not then I'll have the other one as back-up!

Weres Lisa? Lisa has a cage with 3 in it...*Shouts* Lisa what cage do you have?!

ok well if you are getting the first one please take out the metal grid from the litter tray as piggies need solid flooring it hurts their little feet (bred to live on grass) also they may get a leg stuck and panic!

I have a cage with 3 levels. They will use ramps given time and the right floor texture. I have vet bed on one cage ramps and roofing felt on the other.

here's a photo of the one cage ramp

This is a good ramp as you can't have any accidents on it and I also don't get why companies don't add ramp sides themselves.

Here is our other cage. It's all been changed recently and the correx is all black plus mid' level snug added too. Will take some photos tomorrow when I clean out.

My daughter is in it as someone wanted to see how big it was next to a child!

There ramps are bent up grids to stop accidents and lined with vetbed. This cages ramps seem easier to use - they zoom round this cage like crazy.

Be careful as you'll end up with loads of guineas if you have a few cages :(|):(|)

I would anyway!

On the subject of ramps I got some decking planks which had astro-turf on them (fake grass!) and fixed correx sides on them to stop piggies toppling off - that seems to work well too! Lisa - how easy is it to clean your cage out with the sides on, and how often do you do it? Fab setup!

The top floor opens so that's easy.

Then the middle and bottom floor sides flip up and have locks to hold them open. You can then either get in there or slide out the trays - either way it's VERY easy.

My husband designed it and put it together.

I empty and refil litter trays every day and sweet all poop up every day. Then every third day it's a full clean out.

Thanks for the compliments - i am about to put the pics of the cage now it's been tidied up and had a bit added on.
