Personally , I wouldn't use woodshavings .

If you are looking at buying a 20kg bale of bedding , I suggest you look at the unscented hemp beddings available - such as Aubiose …. or maybe Megazorb?

I use wood shavings as it is the most affordable for me. I did look at Aubiose but it was much more expensive. I always make sure the ones I buy are dust free etc, but I had some problems with the pets at home one so that is why I want something different

And I got told that horse bedding is really good. Obviously need to make sure you can use it first. I also looked at something called bedmax? I have heard good things about that and that was within my price range but the only place I can buy it is amazon but I can’t get it till the end of the week

Those shavings look fine to me if you use shavings. I sometimes use Bedmax when my local pet shop has sold out of the large bales of dust free shavings that I use. Bedmax is great but the shaving flakes are quite large

Aubious is that horse bedding, it's decent. It absorbs urine and controls odour, you can spot clean poops and then just give it a stir to freshen it up. The only downside is, it sticks to everything, ull be finding in the strangest places.

It's worth enquiring if there is an equine supplier or pet supplies near you that stocks it or is prepared to order it in .

If you're looking for an alternative to Aubiose, then you could either buy Bedmax or Easibed. I have used both of them and you can buy them at a good price from Ebay.

I’ve always used Finacard for our indoor pigs - it’s dust extracted cardboard shavings and you can get it in 15kg bags. It was recommended by the rescue we have adopted from. I’ve also tried Fitch and megazorb but didn’t get on with either - the megazorb smell was awful and made the entire family feel sick so that was the end of that!

Finacard is not cheap-wood shavings are definitely cheaper. If you buy two at a time it works out at £16 per 15kg bags so it’s a bit more expensive than some of the other options mentioned but I find it really good and it’s far less dusty/prone to spilling everywhere. And it has no real smell!

I have four sows in a 6x2 c&c with lofts at each end and I only need to clean out twice a week-no need to poo pick etc in between. Very absorbent and comfy for them.

Finacard, Dust free animal bedding for rodents, cavies, equines and felines

i use finacard for indoor piggies.i use Aubiose in hutches.you only need 15mm layer, lasts a week in 6 feet hutch with 4 piggies.it works out cheaper than woodshavings in time and money.bedmax is good.i pay £11,for aubiose.£7... for bedmax.but for me Aubiose is way better.ive 24 piggies so less waste and cleaning is important to me !

I use them because they are cost-efficient for me, but I think some people don't use them as they can be quite dusty I guess. The reason I have decided to change where I get mine from is that I found some nasty stuff inside it and really don't trust that brand anymore. It is nearly running out, but everytime I use it I have to double-check that nothing harmful is inside.

Its because its heavy and the shipment will be expensive 😔 so they have to raise the price online
I guess that makes sense. There is nowhere near me that sells it :( That is why I got the one from jolleys instead as it was the same weight and had good reviews

My boars kept getting bits of woodshaving stuck in their bottoms and penises after scent marking the floors of the cages. One of my piggies got a cut on his foot believed to have come from a sharp bit of wood shaving. An exotics vet told me they were too dusty for guinea pigs sensitive respitory systems after one of mine got repeated URIs. I changed to fleece!

I can't use woodshavings because my 2 pigs had uri's as pups before I had them. I can't have it in the same room as my rats now anyway, it'd probably kill them

Thankfully we have not had any of that. I health check them daily and have never seen anything unusual. The one I am currently using is not dusty at all and that is the only good thing I can say about it

apparently you only need a thin layer, pat it down and it stays in place, is absorbent and doesn’t smell. Helen loves it.
Tbh with woodshavings, they absorb really well. I only have to do a big clean once a week and spot clean daily. But I think I will give that a go in the future

I've just ordered some of this paper bedding, hay and the Timothy Hay pellets to try. It's on sale as a bundle at the moment, really good price! I am going to try the bedding in the hay trays, I usually use Back 2 Nature which has got very expensive, tried Megasorb but we didn't like the smell. I don't mind lining them with newspaper and changing every day but OH likes me to use something else while I'm away and he has to clean them out.

I layer newspaper at the bottom of the woodshavings and it has helped

Yea back to natures price is a joke, but m by rats have to be on it 😱

I found vetuk price the best, especially if you buy 30L size. They changed their shipping price recently, it still works out cheaper than most but not so good now!
The cheapest I can find 30L is £15 in kennel gate

VetUK £12.48 but only buy when shipping on offer. Time for Paws £12.49, free shipping over £19, their nuggets and other piggie bits and pieces are cheaper than shops to, I wait until I need something else before I order.
I've not heard of Kennel Gate.
