Is there an official list of guinea pig breeds?

Hello! Very long time no-post!

I'm doing my final year dissertation on guinea pigs, and I need a list of breeds. I know that there is this topic on the [forum here], I don't think I will be able to use it as its not "official," as in, accepted by the scientific community. Is there a list of guinea pig breeds anywhere, kind of like how you have the [Kennel Club breed list] for dogs?

I don’t know that you will find anything ‘official’ but there’s no harm looking online to see. Guinea pigs arent as popular as other pets, and information on them (including veterinary care) isn’t as extensive. Good luck with your search.

I have a book on guinea pigs which has a large section on breeds and showing, would the list in there be official enough?

Also there are some lists on the British Cavy Council website.
Though of course the only breed recognised on this forum is "cute".

Oh... I thought we recognized "awwww" and "adorable" too. Are they just subsets of cute?

I suspect the British Cavy Council is the sort of site you are looking for with details of breed standards. But as they promote purebred standards which relate to breeding and showing they aren’t the sort of site we would usually promote.

That is true, but this is for science so I can't get into the debate of purebreed or not! I'll take a look at the site! All Guinea Pigs should be classed as adorable
