Does anyone know of a suitable large hutch that can house 6 sows?

I am thinking of bonding all my sows to create a herd they get on well in the run so I'd like to house them all together if possible and cut down on the amount of hutches. I want to make sure they have the recommended space

thanks:)

If you look on ebay for "6 foot hutch" you can get two storey ones, which should be suitable for 6 sows, I think :) They're quite expensive but huge and the ones I've seen are well made. :)

Or you could get a 6'X4' shed :)

I have a herd of 6 and i use 2 hutches/runs put together.. (this is for the summer/spring) and in the autumn/winter they live in my shed in a C&C cage

now that's a great idea! I could join my two 5ft cages to make a massive 10ft cage without spending too much! How did you go about cutting holes etc?:))

A small wooden playhouse with a run attached is good then they have a big house and the door unlocked in the day so they can run about outdoors.

This is where my herd of 6 live.. I bought the one on the right 2nd hand for £20 Bargain rolleyes and I just cut the mesh out from the end and joined it up to my existing run which had a door on it already and I just swapped the panels round..

and I just cable tied it together (which actually worked really well)

It has been modified since this pic.. It now has a door on the front of the run (on the left) and it looked more tidier :)) and there is now a ramp that goes up to the hutch on the right (not bricks) :(|)

My next plan is to pain them 8;)

P.s as you can see there is no grass left at all.. drool

Hehe, brilliant set up Curlycritter! There is absolutely no grass left, haha! :))

I think joining your two hutches together is a great idea! I vaguely remember reading about other members who have done this...so if you could find the threads it may say how they did it! Sorry, that's not much help!

This is one of my hutches, it is 6ft by 2ft, the two levels are split as you can see but you could build something similar and add a secure ramp to make it suitable for six. I currently have 3 in the top and 2 in the bottom. To buy these are in the region of £250/300 if not more from Rydale Pet Homes but this was made for £120.

Joining two cages I can imagine would be pretty easy with a piece of large drain pipe, wide enough for a piggie to get through, you could cut circular holes in the ends of the hutches (using a saw or jigsaw if you have one) and connect using the pipe and then just seal around the edges of the pipe with some sort of waterproof sealant. Probably not particularly difficult or expensive.

Great hutch:))

ideally I would love a double 6ft one but I have spent alot already on hutches so need a cheaper option...

I have thought about sawing a hole in the side but it is tounge and grooved and I'm not sure if our tools are up to it!

Then I was thinking the side panels screw off maybe there is a way of taking both sides of and butting them up to each other? anyone tried this? will have to look tomorrow

I have 6 in the new Summer Lodge hutch from P@H, it's quite well made though I have modified the ramp with bannisters, same on the hole, and made it less steep.

It cost £99 and is 5ft x 2ft over two floors, excellent value and not the usual pets at home crappy plywood stuff either
