Me and my friend were introducing our 2 boars (we thought!) when there was no aggression shown except for some rumbling and My boar was mounting and would never leave the other boar alone, we saw that only one has a penis!:...
We thought that patchy might be a girl as she has nipples but not penis!
Is patchy a girl? We have separated them and s'more the boar seems very eager to get to patchy! Please help!?/:...

We would need to see a photograph of Patchy from underneath to tell you for sure. I do hope they are two boars, has anyone/vet ever checked for you?

I had to keep patchy with s'more because patchy was living alone and we thought they should live together, until we found out patchy was a girl!

Boars do often mount eachother, but if your having trouble finding his privates then post a clear well lit picture of them and our memebers will sex them for you :)

How old is Patchey? The penis isn't always visible but you may be able to see the testicals if he isn't a baby :)

As said, with out photos nobody will be able to help. Please post pics if you can.

If you think that Patchey is a girl, the best thing you can do now is to keep a close eye on her and weigh her daily to keep s check on any weight gain. Guinea pigs are pregnant for between 59 and 72 days. You may find the stickys at the top of the pregnancy section helpful http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=11

If you are unable to get specific pics of Patchey privates, a vet will be able to sex for you.

Fingers crossed that either Patchey is a boy or your piggy didn't 'do the deed' :...

Ps, both boars and sows have nipples

I'm not having a go but before introducing two piggys you should always double check there sex as breeders and petshops and even rescues can get sexes mixed up in young pigs. You shouldnt have introduced them until you new 100% piggys were both male....

I think s'more might have have done The deed! D:@)

Even worse, patchey has never had pups and is older that 9 months! :laluot_10:

I am sorry but really didin't you think to check their sex before putting them together? It seems a pretty irresponsible thing to do to be perfectly honest :...

I hope you have the facilities & funds to support the pups & possible vet fees that will follow, especially if she has a difficult pregnancy or birth.
Hopefully she wasn't in season & you may be lucky & she won't be expecting rolleyes

Have you checked his/her privates on this website; it is the best one re. pictures. http://www.cavyspirit.com/sexing.htm

If patches turns out to be female, I'm afraid that you are in for a 10 week wait. How old is Patches exactly?

I fele really stupid about not double checking! When they weekend in desperate cages, s'more Tried squishing through The bars very eagerly, I'm guilty and in she is expecting, ill be buying a 4 decker breeding hutch or Even 2 incase, I'm sving up all my money AND ill do whatever it takes to keep The sow AND/or The pups! I Will be keeping 1 or 2 pups and anne-sophie Will be keeping 1,2 or 3

Hopefully she won't be, it will save you and Patchey lots of stress!

IME boys are fairly easy to sex after they are a few months old due to the normous knackers hanging. ") :))

Always always check the sexes before you introduce anyone!

I think it would really help if you took a quick (well lit) picture and put it up for some of the more experienced members to check. That way you may be able to save yourself some weeks of worry.

Fingers crossed he/she is ok.

You know everyone makes mistakes, it's great on hindsight to say you should have checked but that doesn't help now. We've all taken the word of others incorrectly. It's not like purple blobs meant to breed the piggies. What I love about forums like this is how judgemental people can be.
From experience I've mainly found people helpful but some people seem to throw stones despite actually living in glass houses themselves.

If you are referring to me I don't think I'm being judgemental, nor am I in a glass house throwing stones. I've been on this forum long enough to see this happen a few times before, in one case the person admitted afterwards it was deliberate & that they totally regretted their actions. There are lots of cases on here where rescues have had to pick up the pieces of such encounters & the owners (or the parents) have had to give up their piggies for adoption to a rescue as they have had accidental births.

Very rarely have I felt the need to comment on these situations but in this case I felt I needed to. Purple blobs has said she accepts responsibility for what has happened & will keep them all, so I hope she does.

Call me an old cynic that I can accept :))

If you can't figure out for sure you should take your little piggy to an experienced exotics vet! it can be awhile I was told before they can tell if they are pregnant just based on examination but at least you will find out for sure the sex of your pig!
good luck

thank-you so much for replying! I know we made a huge mistake and we have told our parents and they said that they will help with the vet bills and stuff like if patchey goes into labour when we're at school >.< I will be visiting patchey and anne-sophie every 2-3 days and I will be helping to weigh and pickout the fruits/veggies that inlude most vitamin c and I will be putting vitamin drops into her food. I will inform Anne-sophie of everything you said! I will have pictures after my tennis lessons because after tennis I'll run to anne-sophie since it takes only 1 minute and take a photo of patchey, and s'more

It wasn't actually you that I was referring to.

Could you please ask the parents or your friend's help to take a picture of the privates and post it in our pregnancy section? That should answer the question once and for all. Please face the crucial bit of anatomy towards a source of light and use the macro (flower symbol) option for best results. The clearer the pictures the better. I think that even your parents will have every interest in having this bit cleared up.
Here is a tutorial on how to post pictures: http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=88068

If Patches turns out to be a girl, it would be good if your friend joined the forum herself and opened a thread for Patches in our pregnancy section to get our full information pack with all the relevant things that she needs to know (including a very detailed guide that should answer most questions that may come up). Your friend will have a place where she can ask any further questions about it as times goes on and can be assured that her girl is in the best of hands as far as support and advice goes; if you are lucky, nothing has has happened but you won't know until the usual 10 weeks' pregnancy watch is up. Our pregnancy section is specifically monitored by some very experienced members who can help you with sexing and any other questions relating to pregnancy/birth and baby care.

Anyway I would be very grateful if members would refrain from any further finger pointing. Mistakes have happened and will undoubtedly happen again. The poster is taking full responsibility.

I will ask my parents if I can go and take the picture of both pigs, I have S'more here ofcourse, might take a while! xx

my parents aren't home and anne-sophies family isn't home! >.< Ill add one of S'more though...

S'more is definatly a boar your right, so hopefully patches will be too. :)
