one of my guinea pigs has a bald bloody nose, at first i thought it was fungel, i have been treating him with GG microneem elt and the the shapoo. He has had his second treatment today. 2 days after the first treatment i gave him Ivomectin.

Anyway i now think it is ringworm so if so would this be the same treatment or would i need something different?

Ringworm is fungal, yes, and can pass from pig to pig as well as to humans, so if it IS that you'll be needing the rubber gloves! The vet should be able to tell you if it's ringworm or not. If it is, they usually give Malaseb shampoo, think I had to do mine every 3 days. It's important to keep him away from other pigs and to clean his cage at the same time as you bath him and use something like Virkon that kills fungal spores. If he's in a wooden hutch it's worse as the spores can stay in the wood for a long time.

Best to get the vet to diagnose it then treat accordingly. Hope he's ok

OMG, I'm freaking out again now! My vet said Tobii just had some severe cuts that needed to heal over, but after reading this and seeing those pictures, I'm sure it's ringworm. Funny thing is, Rocket shows no signs of it...

There's ringworm and there are other fungal infections. Ringworm isn't very common but as mentioned above it is very contagious to humans. I totally agree with getting a vet to diagnose it properly.

It doesn't necessarily pass to other pigs in contact with the infected pig, but there is a risk it will.

The vet should be able to recognise ringworm, so don't worry - if in doubt then go back for a check up but if it's cuts / wounds they should heal quite quickly, ringworm takes a while

Thanks sophie, where do you get the Virkon from? How long did it take your's to get over it? one more question if i use the Virkon in the hutch will it kill the spores? Thanks

I got Virkon in tablet form from sph supplies

http://www.sphsupplies.co.uk/

I use it routinely in all of my hutches, as with the rescue piggies coming and going you can never be too careful.

I tend to quarantine new pigs in indoor cages (plastic bases) for this reason too, they're much easier to clean properly if anything nasty comes in.

Mine took about a month, with bathing every 3 days, but I didn't rehome him for about another month after that to be sure. His cage mate got it too. One lesson learnt there, as I didn't quarantine the new baby because the other little pig was lonely. Never again!

Virkon does kill fungal spores but I don't know if it would make the hutch safe to use - as I said, luckily mine were in plastic cages. I would probably do them all in something really strong, and then leave them empty for a while.

Anyway, it may not be ringworm, but you need to be sure what it is before you treat.

try not to panic
lots of illnesses have similar symptoms, the best thing to do is check with your vet if you're really concerned
however if your vet's already checked Tobii and said it's just a cut i'd trust them; they'd know if it was ringworm so try not to worry <3

Looking at those pictures Sophie, how can you tell that it's ringworm and not (for instance) mites? When two of my piggies had ringworn ages ago, there was a lot of hair loss around mouth/nose area, a bit white, maybe dusty looking. But there was no blood at all. Is that just with scratching? Touch wood, ringworm has never returned and I have never had piggies with mites, hence me asking what may sound like a dumb question.
If it is ringworm, although contagious as other have said, it is very easily treatable. xx

Ringworm is the MOST common fungal infection to affect guinea pigs.
