Adult Guinea Pig
Hi all,
Just wondering about the oilcloth type fabrics which have a pvc or vinyl top coat (like the stuff used for wipe clean tablecloths).
I've seen some gorgeous designs and was wondering whether or not they'd be safe to use for lining hutches (I know some people glue down lino flooring to make the hutch floor much easier to clean), or to put down to protect your flooring when you get your pigs out for floor time fun and frolics!
I was looking at this oilcloth fabric in a shop and it absolutely reeked, with the fumes from the plastic coating. (I'm sure I could've got some kind of high just by standing next to the big rolls of it!) I assume that this stink would disappear as soon as you started using it....or do you think there would there always be enough of a lingering whiff to upset a guinea pig's sensitive nose? I guess it'd be covered with a towel or something, for floor-time, or covered with newspaper and/or bedding inside a hutch.
Also, I guess there is a chance that it could perhaps get nibbled....would this be safe enough or would it be dangerously toxic?
Any thoughts please?
Many thanks
