I've been looking at DIY guinea pig projects and found a lot of cool things. Some certain things caught my attention like "How to make your own litter box". The person in this video used a plastic container and used it as the litter box. She made it safe by filing the rough edges and put hay in it afterwards. I just wanted to know if plastic is ok for piggies to knaw on or if I should make it piggie proof so they won't be able to ingest the plastic. What are your guys ideas?

Plastic probably isn't *great* but all of my pigs have chewed plastic - I do find bits so I don't think they deliberately eat it, but they probably ingest a certain amount

The only plastic thing in my piggy cage is a wooden tree hut that is made of mixed plastic and wooden materials. My piggies love to chew on this, but fortunately, it's so sturdy that their incessant gnawing for the past year has only managed to make a few very small marks. I think as long as they are not ingesting a significant amount of the material, it's okay. Just be sure to monitor and watch every time you add something plastic to their cage.

Only plastic in my cage is a pigloo and mine don't chew on it ..i have willow chews in mine which they distroy..especially willow balls or dumbbells ...

Mine would always chew on their plastic hidey's will no ill effect but I changed to wooden hidey's just in case.

Mine have plastic hay trays but also have willow balls to chew on and of course loads of hay.

I have a plastic pigloo and my pigs chewed on it at the beginning but they don't like the taste so they don't chew it anymore. I also have a wooden house which they do chew on.

It feels more natural for them to chew on wood but I guess you never know what glues have been used for them etc. Patchy chews on her wooden hidey all the time and she's ok so as long as she's happy i have no problem with her chewing it just wish she wouldn't make so much noise doing it. I can't get them to eat anything wicker or along those lines :(
