Hi there!

Preparing the cage for bringing the wee guys home...

Just wondering if a layer of newspaper, then towel, then fleece is sufficient for a cage holding two baby guineas & how often should this be washed?

I am looking into getting 100% cotton mattress protectors for the middle layer, but for now is this set up ok?

I have bought 2 new fleeces, is washing them & drying them twice before i use them suffice?

(i have just read the article on FLEECES so i'm just clarifying it ;) )

thanks !

3 washes with non bio is better. I've never used the towel method with my fleeces but the incontinence super absorbent mattress protectors I got only really became completely effective after a few washes ( it did say this on the packaging ) so I used puppy pads in between the fleece and the protectors until then in the high wee areas. Puppy pads are an alternative option to towels under the fleece, you can usually get them from bargain shops. I used to get a pack of 14 from Home Bargains for £1.99. I'm sure somebody who uses towels will be along to advise shortly.

I just use a thick layer of newspaper and it works just fine.
I do fold the fleece so that theres a gap at the top where their hay goes and they always wee wee and poop in those corners that have no fleece so I never have a wet fleece.:(|) Such good girls.

I do their toilet corner twice a week-just remove and replace the newspaper.
I change the fleece once a week but its never wet so I can get away with it.

Yes, it is just fine for an indoors cage.
