Recently my pig has been sleeping a lot more, though I am weighing him daily and he has not been loosing weight.

He has currently has a sore on his back foot, and has bee limping with the other, which I will be taking him in next week for, however if he's having breathing issues and it is critical to his health, I'm willing to drop a some money to take him to my local pet emergency room.

I'm not sure if it's okay to post links here, but I uploaded a ten second video of him breathing here:

Until someone else comes along, would you mind describing the sound of his breathing? I can't seem to tell the background noise apart. If you lift him up to your ear, how does it sound? When he is awake or even asleep, does he suck in his stomach noticeably to breath?

If it's anything like an URI, there will be discharge (or crust as well I think) from the nose but not sure how advanced a stage that would be.

I can't hear anything coming from him while he rests, but when I hold him closer to my ear I do hear him wheezing slightly, and now that you mention it, there has been crust on his nose, that I'm beginning to become concerned about...

It doesn't look laboured to me, just the usual slightly heavier breathing that I see when my pigs are sleeping. I couldn't really make out the sound from the video. However, if you can hear wheezing and he has a crust on his nose I would get him checked out. I don't think it is an emergency at this stage but the sooner you get him seen the better. Is he eating ok?

I don't want to panick you, but you may need to ring the vet for advice or possibly an emergency appointment. Here is a definition and symptoms of an URI on GuineaLynx: Guinea Lynx :: URI

"Signs of a URI:

  • Refusal to eat or drink (anorexia)
  • No feces (as a result of not eating)
  • Labored breathing, wheezing
  • Sneezing, coughing
  • Crusty eyes, eyes that are almost sealed shut
  • Discharge from eyes or nose (read about normal Eyes)
  • Dull and/or receding eyes
  • Rough or puffed-up coat
  • Lethargy, hunched posture"

The weezing is slight, and a vet look at him this morning (for an unrelated reason) and didn't seem bothered by the discharge, and could hear nothing wrong with him when she checked his heart...

However this was not my usual vet, and I cannot tell you if she was reliable

He has been eating okay, and has been having Diarrhea a couple days ago (which seems to have cleared)
and as I stated before, I weigh him daily, he's been pretty steady

Just monitor him for now then and ask the vet when you go to get his foot checked, unless you notice any further symptoms then he will need to see them sooner.
