So basically last week my girl stayed at a rescue to be bonded back together with my other boar pig Ringo(now named Gerald) It failed. She came home to me alone after 4 days in the rescue.i surrendered my younger boar as they didn’t get along and he has had a lot of interest for a new family. All Fudge does now is sleep! She didn’t even recognise me when she came home. She’s still eating and not losing weight. I also bought her everything new. I’ve had her checked by the vet and they said she is lively bright and healthy. Is she lonely? She’s on the waiting list for a friend but I’ve no idea how long it will be. We get her out for floor time but she just runs back and jumps in her cage. This is the first time in 7 years I’ve only had one piggie and I’m not sure what to do? 😞.

If there isn't another to be adopted, could you buy one from a pet store? It would give her a friend. She's probably lonely.

I’d rather not buy from a pet store as I’d rather have an older pig. I’m going to reach out to rescues a bit further afield. It seems not many pigs being surrendered during lockdown.

It’s not really a go to option as a rescue friendly forum but also because of the risk of more failed bondings, then the OP will end up with two single piggies

Sounds like a good plan.

Sorry, yeah you should wait. I misunderstood the first post.

I was worried the first pig would get ill due to loneliness.

Even so, going to buy from a pet shop isn’t recommended unless it’s the very last option.

Good luck with the hunt. I’ll link the enrichment thread below. I think sometimes they revert back to being shy when on their own.

Was that way with my Jess, she was really quiet and not her confident self at all after losing Rupert. She’s normally all over you and loves her snuggles but just preferred her own company, totally different pig to normal bless her.

Really hope you can find her a good friend soon @EJMA82 :)

Many rescues are not openly publicising the piggies in their care as they aren’t open to the public. But piggies are now coming in. The potteries has a system whereby you can ask to be paired up when a suitable piggy comes in. I would message all the rescues that are within your driving distance and ask to be put on their list so that if they have a suitable piggy they can let you know. However, if you have an acutely pining piggy, then needs must and you should not feel constrained from sourcing a baby sow from wherever you can.

Fantastic news! I’ve just reserved a piggy called Lolly at Neville’s Nest. She’s a one year old white Abyssinian sow and absolutely beautiful. She’s apparently very laid back with not much Abytude so I’m hoping it’s an excellent match.I’m hoping to pick her up at the weekend.57B3E101-248D-435C-864B-986286FB5B26.webp

I had an Abby male called snowy who passed just over 2 years ago he had massive Abytude, used to cause a right racket constantly popcorning and bashing into stuff but he was hilarious. He was completely white as well 🤣

Exactly! Always shoving things out of the way! Tipping the pigloo over every day at least once whilst my other two (in separate cage) have never tipped theirs over!

Abytude is real you-know 😂

I'm picking her up at midday tomorrow. I'm both excited and incredibly nervous. I was hoping to bond outside on the grass in nopig land but its too wet for that so kitchen floor it is!

Let us know how it goes. And plenty of photos pleaseeee :D
