Hi! I was just wondering if my cage is big enough for 2 piggies. I only have 1 male at the moment, and we don't have much more space or money to buy a bigger cage. I want to build one with IKEA furniture and PlexiGlass, but we might move soon.
I currently have The Living World Deluxe Habitat in the large size. Its made for rabbits, but I'm not sure If its big enough for 2. Hammy really wants a friend. The dimensions are 37.8 inches length x 22.4 inches width x 22 inches height.
Thank You so much!
P.S. I love in the USA anyway this is a UK website. (i just love all the feedback and this is a great website)
Hammy and I would really appreciate it.

Hi & welcome, we have members from all over the world. Do you have a pic of your cage, that's one I haven't seen before.

Hi!

Unfortunately your cage dimensions do seem too small to permanently house a guinea pig in, let alone two. We recommend 2 foot by 4-5 foot for two guinea pigs, bigger is better. C and C caging would be an excellent option for you though. This involves storage grids and correx. The housing and enrichment section of the forum has a thread with many different cage options.

You could keep it as a hospital cage though.

I would certainly have a look into C&C cages, they are fab!

What would be the cheapest option for a c&c cage? I hear that they are quite expensive. I don't have much money, but I really want whats best for my piggies. If you do have any recommendations, can you link me to something in the USA or on Amazon? Thanks!

I got my c&c grids on ebay. I would link you to where I got them from but I can't find them now, I think they might have sold out from the place I got them. All in all, my C&C cost about £70 to make. My store bought cage was £65 and about 1/3 of the size. Hope you manage to find grids and stuff, hopefully someone else will be able to help more with where to get them :)

Without my loft, my cage has cost about £40 and it's a 3 by 3 C and C cage for two boars. I ordered a ready made custom loft kit which ended up costing just under £50 including delivery and a few extra bits. I probably could have made it for about £10-£15 extra, but I wasn't sure on how to make a ramp.

For more information on cage size guidelines please see this thread Cage Size Guide it covers the RSPCA guidelines on minimum sizes for the UK, as mentioned the bigger the better

Well, I have a g-pig cage that is like 5 feet long and it has an extension. And I have three of them. My cage was fairly cheep, I made it. It was made with the plastic white stuff (forgot what its called). Then I cut it up to be the size I like. Then I took the little squares that you make cubbies and stuff. And then whallah! Done! So it was very cheep. You can make it smaller than mine. Itś really big because when I made it we had 4 guinea pigs. So yeah

I'm not sure about the etiquette of talking about other forums here but guinealynx and Guinea pig cages are both US based and whilst obviously they aren't a patch on here for general advice (obviously, GPF rules!) you might find it helpful to find larger cages on a budget in more local stores.

Good luck, you definitely need to find a solution that creates much more space.

I forgot to mention, the grids in the 2nd link is from Amazon. They're on sale now for $14.88. You'll only need one box if you're not building a cage stand.

The coroplast from Home Depot are all under $20.

Hi! Random question, HOW DO YOU END THREADS?! I emailed them like a week ago, but they still haven't replied. THANKS SO MUCH!

Sadly not. A 2x4 is a good size for a pair of pigs. The bigger the better.

Multiple levels don't count as guinea pigs are not climbers by nature so even though you can add levels its the floor space that counts.
