Is it worth it to buy a proper brush?

Hi everyone, so just before lockdown started I adopted a long haired guinea pig. I was going to buy a proper brush for guinea pigs but then I read on the internet that’s its fine to use a comb. At the moment I brush her everyday using a small plastic comb (I know it’s not ideal) however her hair is very tangled, I also tried using a regular human hair brush but it didn’t really get the tangles out. I‘m honestly just considering cutting most of her hair off as she hates being brushed and I just don’t know what to do. I was wondering, could it be that I just need a better brush or am I brushing her wrong?

edit: was also wondering if anyone could recommend any good brushes

Hi in the end I’ve ordered a rosewood brush set from amazon 😊

I end up trimming the fur very short around the bum and belly length on the sides, then brush with a soft bristle pet hairbrush every few days. It helps keep the piggy cool, and rarely gets tangled.
Hope this helps😊

Thank you 😊

Our Edgar will only allow me to brush him with MY tangle teaser, I sometimes think about buying him his own, but they're so expensive 😭 all the other brushes and combs I've tried seem to just pull on his hair too much.

I think it's definitely worth it to buy a proper brush, I got Jorge a proper Guinea Pig one with wire bristles instead of his dog brush and his fur looks so much better! 😁

I think they sell ‘pet teezers’ in pets at home, they are advertised as dog brushes (so are in the dog section) but they do different sizes and for different hair types (long hair, short hair ect.). I have one for my rabbit and it works really well the bristles are exactly the same as a tangle teezer but the shape of the brush is a little different. I think they might be a bit cheaper than tangle teezers as well. I don’t have long haired piggies so not sure if they would work but giving that they are very similar to tangle teezers I assume that they would do just the same job!
