My piggy Pickles hasn't been doing well for the past few days. He's older, probably 6-7 years old, and has had a number of health issues in the past. I've been doing my best to monitor his quality of life and figure out when it's time, but it's not easy of course. For the past couple days he hasn't been eating much of anything on his own, facing a corner hunched up, and his mobility isn't good. I've been giving him Meloxicam and syringe feeding him critical care and water. He has a really good appetite when I syringe feed him. I planned on bringing him to the vet tomorrow to put him to sleep, but tonight he ate a few pellets on his own and even took some veggies from me which he hadn't been doing. He seemed a little more steady on his feet tonight too.

I feel terrible to keep him going as he is, but I also feel bad to pts if he is improving a bit. I don't know how to decide if his quality of life is decent enough to warrant letting him continue on for a few more days, or if it would just make me feel worse. I know it's never an easy decision and I know no one can decide for me, but any advice would be appreciated.

Hello. I’m so sorry you have to make this decision. It must be so hard. I once took a piggy to the vet who was poorly and the vet told me it was time to pts. If you’re not sure if it’s time how about a trip to the vets for advice? It may be that he is poorly but with some treatment might live for another few days, weeks, months. It might be arthritis and pain killers may help. Whatever decision you make it will be made with their best interest at the heart of it. Take care

It is always a tricky decision, and remember you know your own piggy best.
But facing a corner and sitting hunched up sounds like he is in pain, so a hands on examination at the vet is essential.
They will hopefully be able to diagnose the problem, and then guide you as to how treatable it is.
It may well be something that simply requires a course of antibiotics and pain killers, but only a vet can tell.

So I would say have him seen by a vet that you trust and take it from there.
