ive been having a few herd dynamic problems today...
out of nowhere...
lots of teeth chattering... chasing... nipping... and oliver seems to have taken a massive disliking to my 3 older girls... he has on several occasions launched himself in to the air at them...
he'll walk up to one of them and teeth chatter and if they dont back down to him... which the older girls dont... then he litterally launches him self at them...
food will temperarily stop the fighting but it will kick back off the second they have run out...
i have not removed oliver from the herd as of yet... there has been no blood drawn... I'm keeping a close eye on everyone... he has not started on the younger ones.... but they back down to him and are obviously scared of him...
I'm concidering if this hasnt calmed down by bed time to take him out for the night...
any ideas why oliver seems to have turned in to devil pig...?
and do you think its advisable to split them up...?... even if its temperary....?

Oh dear. I had herd problems a couple of weeks ago and had to temporarily separate one away from the terrified rest after she pulled chunks of hair out of some of them. Things calmed down and are back to normal now.
What did you do in the end last night ? Separate them or leave them ? How are things this morning ?

I left them to it as it seemed to calm down and when I put them to bed about 10:30 they seemed okay...
Still lots of teeth chattering and chasing and nipping today but no where near as bad as it was...!
Hopefully it was just a blip...!
As I've never know Oliver be anything but gentle...!

It looks like Oliver has had a hormonal surge and has started a dominance dispute. As long as there are no bites and fights, I would let them be. There is a good chance that they will make it through it - probably with Oliver getting more respect. With the older girls backing off, you will hopefully get away with it.

It is a tense time and you have my full sympathies! I was knackered yesterday evening after my own dodgy intros with Tegyd that were on a similar level. Things are still going along here, though - I hope that you will get the same result.

is somebody in season do you think Clare ?
or is he just trying to be the 'boss' pig :x

the girlies havent long had there PMT week from hell... :))
i litterally cant work out what got him so riled up... i think it might be because it was very muggy yesterday and maybe he was feeling a little bit rubbish...?

i watched your video with tegyd and thats close to whats happening with my lot... its horrible to watch isnt it...
hows little teggy doing...?
theres been no leaping through the air today...
but still lots of teeth chattering and chasing and bum nipping...
I'm just concerned for coco at the moment... becuase of the possible medical issues she may have...
i think what ever set him off has calmed down now...
its just bizzarre really becuase you could never meet a more laid-back piggie than oliver... and to see him doing that was quite distressing...!
silly creatures...!
hes still having quite a few clashes with madam mardy bum... thats her actual name becuase she was HELL to bond in my herd...

I would think that you are over the worst of it now, but a major dominance reshuffle will take some time to settle down. It is ever so difficult to watch indeed!

Tanni's lip is not a pretty sight - Tegyd has bitten right into it and I have been giving her baytril on top of a local disinfectant, whenever I get hold of her (she's back to being Miss Super Skittish) in order to help prevent an infection.

Tegyd has decided to move in with the Tribe today and the hierarchy sort out is in full swing... It is definitely lively to occasionally hairy! We have the full array of chattering, chasing, nipping, lots of squealing, a few face offs and one or two near fights with some chunks of hair coming off, all interspersed with periods of blessed quiet. I will be ever so glad when that stage is over and the Tribe settles down again! But that won't be in the next few days...

I was totally knackered by yesterday evening between the weather, bad nights and all the bonding tension.

awww... poor tanni...!
i think it is starting to calm down now... or atleast the edge has been taken off...
most of the girlies are just keeping out of olivers way... well... all except cleo... who quite happily kicks him in the face and squirts him... and funnily enough he seems to take it off her today... and thats what hes always been like... if one of the girls thows a hissy fit.... he just moves out the way...
but it was like world war 3 yesterday...!
hope your tribe settles down nicely so there poor slave can catch some Z's... :))
