Hi! Right, I'm quite new here, sorry if my english isn't correct ^^ So! Well, I got my first two guinea pigs a little over a month ago, and I was told it was two girls, but, I'm not really sure. I'm used to rabbits, you see. Anyway. Of course I've tried to check for myself, but he isn't really happy about being on his back. So, the one I think is a male is bigger than the sow, I've often seen him sniff on her but, and he doesn't lift his but and make those dislike-noises as the sow does. I've also seen him try to, um.. Mount her, but she doesn't want too. I've also seen him rumblestrutting (that was the word, right?) once. Is it a male? Sorry if it seems like a dumb question or anything, but, as I said, I'm used to rabbits, not really sure about the pigs yet. He lives in the traveling cage now, but they're together when they're out running, as I can keep an eye on them then. And, if it's a male, I know there's a chance for the sow being pregnant then, and obviously I don't want that, as she's so young at this point. So, I wondered, she hasn't gone up in weight or anything, and every time he tries to flirt with her, mount her and that, she turnes around and yells at him. Is that a good sign? They wouldn't be ready for mating if they were pregnant, right? Well, I'm not sure. But I'm going to get him neutered if it's a male, as I'm quite sure it is. This was kinda long, sorry about that :b

http://www.cavyspirit.com/sexing.htm

This site has good pictures to help you sex your piggie, if she does turn out to be a he, your other girl will probably be pregnant.
I have 4 boys in pairs and they try to mount each other, this is for dominance, I am not sure if sows do this too.
Good luck. O0

Could be, could be a over dominant sow, or cysts, can you get a pic of his bits so we can tell you?

Yeah, I've looked at the sexing page before, but it doesn't help much at this point, he isn't very pleased with being held like that, and tries to get away, so, I couldn't get a good picture if him either. But I have a picture of his, well, but, like.. From behind. Uhm. Yeah. He has a visible but behind, if you know what I mean, which the sow doesn't have. So, does this picture help? Here you can see his but and that. :b

Hi and welcome :D

I cant really tell from that piccie if its a male or not but it is sooo cute :smitten: Do you have any other piccies ? maybe get someone to help you hold him/her upright and quickly get a piccie ? :-\

i cant tell from that pic either :) try snap a piccie of his/her bits :)

Ok, I'll try again then, and thanks, I also thinks he's adorable ^^ I don't have anyone else to hold him while I get a picture, as my sister gets afraid and lets them go as soon as they only move or anything. So, hold on, I'll try again!

Ok then O0

That is the cutest picture ever :smitten: does he try to mount her often? My girls mount eachother when they're in heat, could be that? x

Definitely a sow :D ;D O0 They are very clear piccies aswell :)

When the one in the pic comes into heat she probably mounts the other :) thats what mine do! Some get more frisky than others ;D she isnt losing any hair down her sides is she? x

Looks girly to me, none of my boys look like that. :)

Yay, it's a girl! Honestly, that was great news, now she can move back in the cage, and even get her old name back, and I won't have to go through neutering, and, and.. Well, yay, thanks for all your help! :D I guess you'll be seeing more of me around here xP

:) if she is only doing it every few weeks she'll just be in heat! If she does it all the time it might be worth getting her checked out by the vets incase its hormonal :) x
