My male guineapig is 9 months old . He used to be very introvert and ate plenty of food . But from a few days I've been noticing that his appetite had decreased and he is very chatty . Always staying beside the female gp's house . They are separated. And he has a foul smell coming from his genitalia . His poop pee is normal . He is eating but not like he used to . He is suddenly chatty and restless. I could take him to a vet but none of my gps were saved because the vet couldn't even diagnose the problem . Solution from here helped me more . So I want to know please if tou could guys tell is he ill or he is in heat ?

Hi

Your boy is very ill. Guinea pigs re prey animals that cannot fast; a guinea pig that is off their food is either very ill or not able to eat. They are very good at supressing any symptoms for as long as possible; when they infally show, you need to act quickly.

Please step in with syringe feeding support asap (for as long as he is not back to eating fully by himself) and have his genital area vet checked. He may need an antibiotic for an infection in that area that is safe to give to a rodent.
Your feeding and watering support is as important as any medical care.

Please take the time to read through the following links; you should find them very helpful. They contain all the detailed information and practical tips:

Here is our very comprehensive step by step guide with plenty of pictures and some videos, which also includes a chapter on how to improvise in an emergency: All About Syringe Feeding and Medicating Guinea Pigs with Videos and Pictures

Here is the link to our emergency and serious illness care information pack. It also contains links to safe and unsafe medications for people who only have access to vets not familiar with guinea pigs; they links also contain further links for a vet to compute the correct dosages for guinea pigs of some common basic medications: Emergency and Crisis Care as well as Bridging Care until a Vet Appointment

Here is our boar care guide. Problems with the genital and the anal areas of boars are in the chapters 'bits' and 'bums'.
Boar Care: Bits, Bums & Baths

Fingers very firmly crossed.

I’m sorry he is so poorly. Please do syringe feed him a fibre rich recovery feed.

Male guinea pigs do not have a ‘heat’. That is something only females have.

I hope he is ok

If the sow is in season could that be putting him off his food while he’s being distracted by her? Just a guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Could the smell be him scenting?

I’d get him checked out by a vet to make sure. Good luck.

Hi

Please accept that boars do NOT lose their appetite or get distracted from eating because a sow is in season.

This is a very ill guinea pig. The sow being in season is coincidence.
