Hello, a bit random this one! I am constantly concerned about the welfare of my two out in their hutch outside this winter and always trying to think of ways to make their lives abit more bearable (other than bringing them indoors which my husband has put his foot down and said no cuz they are just too smelly). Anyway, I do all I can (snuggle sacks, heat pads, plenty of fresh hay, fleece blankets etc etc) but just read up on a website somewhere about putting foil bubble wrap around the hutch for extra insulation. They do have a cover over their hutch but it's starting to fall apart, so in addition to having to buy a new one shortly, I was actually thinking about somehow insulating the walls inside the hutch with this foil bubble wrap, good idea/will it work do you think? Or is it just a terrible/ridiculous idea? And will they try to eat it?!

I would say it was safe for the outside of a hutch to insulate it but would need to be in an area where the pigs cannot get to it. I would say that unless you have the most well behaved guinea pigs in the world they would almost certainly chew on it.
I know of some people that wrap a duvet and other insulating things under the hutch cover or with a tarpaulin when it is really cold to provide more insulation.

I wouldn't put it on the inside of the hutch - outside is fine as long as it's underneath a waterproof cover.
