Over a year ago I used to use Fitch bedding, which I found very good, although I was put off from using it as one of my guinea pigs was always eating it. She also does this with Carefresh. I have been wanting to try Fitch again, as I want a break from washing fleece everyday. I also stay at my parents house occasionally at weekends and I think disposable bedding will be easier for my boyfriend who will be looking after them. I just wondered whether I should avoid using Fitch, in case it can cause a blockage if my guinea pig starts eating it again? Thank you.

Fitch should be fine its only paper!finacard is a cardboard bedding thats shredded,it is £15 for a 20 kg bale, cardboard is very safe to chew, its very absorbant and cheaper than fitch, you find it on line finacard website,if you fancy trying another edible bedding.

Thank you for your message. I have Finacard but I find it goes too soggy too quickly. I also have Ecobed but Lily, my guinea pig, doesn't appear to like it very much. She doesn't run around her hutch much when that's in there.

the other two absorbant beddings i use are megasorb and aubiose, you need a car to get these, from a horse feed store, you can buy on line but can work out ecpensive.i used megasorb in the areas where the finacard got soggy, then placed finacard on top, that worked a treat.maybe finacard and fitch together?x

A word of warning on Megazorb, I used it a lot and loved it but had several batches which were very very dusty and in the end made me very wheezy and the piggies sneeze a lot. I then found plastic pieces in the bedding as well. When I complained to them they asked me what I was using it for and they said that Megazorb was not intended for use with small pets. I have not used it since. very disappointing as in my mind it was the easiest and most absorbent bedding but when you compare the dust in Megazorb and the dust in Fitch there is nothing in Fitch.

I have used aubiose before but it made me cough a bit when I was changing their bedding, so I thought if it makes me cough it can't be good for the guinea pigs' breathing (one had a respiratory infection at the time). I might have just had a bad batch. Using Fitch and Finacard together sounds like a good idea, I will try that. Thanks.

Thank you. Yes I've heard Megazorb can be dusty and maybe a bit smelly? I will try using Fitch again, maybe with a bit of cardboard bedding on top. I once had a bale of Finacard and found loads of black pieces of plastic in it. The company sent me a new bale when I emailed them to complain, but it puts you off using it.

megasorb can be slightly dusty but found under the finacard no smell or dust as a layer of finacrd on top ,stops any exposure, for absorbency megasorb is one the best materials ive found.but bedding is a personal choice ,it is what suits your budget, your piggies and your personal preference.i would be very interested to hear how you get on with finacard and fitch together:nod:

I do agree Eileen.

I was so disappointed when Megazorb went down in quality and was shocked at their response as I would have thought the total of small pet owners using it is considerable. I just then wondered what else was in it to make them respond that way.

The other good bedding is Medibed but I do find its messy and gets everywhere. Plus I have to go to the farm shop whereas the others i can buy online.

At least nowadays we have a lot of choice rather than just sawdust or more sawdust many years ago (showing my age now!)
