Thinking of getting one to put in the cage so it helps ( hopefully) keeps there nails filed down.

But not sure if it's suitable. I'm open to suggestions or ideas. Thanks

I imagine a concrete slab would get very messy, very quickly - you know what guinea pigs are like!
I think if you have a huge space and can place a tile or slab in one small corner that would be different, but otherwise it would be smelly and poopy in no time.

I tried something similar with a tile under the water bottle, and honestly it didin't make any difference to their nails.

I mean for a part of there cage. Not the entire thing.

Also I've no experience in doing there nails. My hands arnt the steadest

You could alsways ask at the local vet - sometimes the nurses will do a quick nail trim for a couple of pounds?

We are going to do that soon. But I was more thinking for afterwards. So they don't grow as quick.

But if its not worth it. Or doesn't help much that's all good

Please get your piggy nails cut and your piggies given a quick health check monthly by an experienced nurse; most clinics do it for a small fee when you enquire. A number of good rescues also offer this service. ;)

A hard surface is not ideal for wearing down piggy nails as the outer nails on the front feet bend sidewards and won't wear evenly.
A rough surface can also lead to bumblefoot (pododermatitis) when bugs get into tiny cracks in the skin and cause infection; especially on a surface that is not easy to keep clean; bad cases of bumblefoot can be fatal as it can often be rather hard to treat.

I’ve had piggies since 2007 and still take them to the vets to have their nails trimmed 😆 it isn’t cheap for me as I see the vet but she gives them a check over at the same time which I like but I’m sure a nurse would do it for cheaper

I don't mind paying its good to do it like that. Better safe than sorry. I know you can cut them wrong and cause them pain

Our vet nurse does them for £9 per piggy but that includes a general health check and a clean of Theo's boy bits and a check of Jezzy floof's sensitive feet that get a bit sore!

That's not bad..

Think my girls will have a different opinion on the matter though lol
