I am rather doubtful about bleeding hearts and would definitely recommend to fenced them off.

Please NEVER let your guinea pigs roam unsupervised and make sure that you have plugged even the slight hole under any fence your piggies could squeeze through. When you look closely, there a wildlife highways through your garden for the smaller animals like rats etc. to move from garden to garden. Cats and even foxes can come over fences in broad daylight, too.

We call unprotected guinea pig set-ups in back gardens "Cats' Takeaways" for good reasons - and I have adopted survivors of such situations.

As to foxes, have a look at this link here: Please don't underestimate foxes!

I asked about the plants. Did not need you jumping to conclusions and slating me thinking that my garden is unstable for them to run free in and that I leave them unattended. You know nothing about what it is like and has specially made concrete blocks under the wooden fencing so there are definitely no “holes or rats” anywhere! Came on here for help not people assuming things!

Hi!

I am very glad to hear that you are planning very carefully!

However, I have not jumped to any conclusions or slated you in any way but raised some valid concerns with outdoors free roaming that many people do not consider.
We are sadly contacted regularly by people who are not aware that free roaming can be problematic or after things have gone wrong with them.

As with any new member we do not know yet where they are coming from, we try to figure out where you stand so we can take any advice from there. I am sorry if you see this as an attack.
It is however no reason to be rude as I have not denigrated you any way or have been impolite to you.

I can't find anything about bleeding heart but it has another name I can't think of at the moment, I'm sure I've read somewhere in the past it's poisonous to cats, it has a nasty sap which brings me out in a rash. Roses again I can't find anything but I would be concerned about injuries, particularly to eyes from thorns, primroses are poisonous to dogs and cats so I should imagine would be to guinea pigs too if injested they cause gastrointestinal upsets. Many plants can upset guinea pigs stomachs if eaten, even things like too many daisys or clover in the lawn.
There are some poisonous plants listed on this website although I am sure this is not a complete list.
