It sounds silly but I have never really noticed with our girls when they are in season or not. I think it was because our old matriarch was so dominant and the two little ones so laid back that behaviour changes didn't really show. Now our matriarch has died, I think Juno is dominant but only because she blocks Attie's access to the food bowl occasionally - she is too lazy to do anything else!

Now we have got Mikey and I think the dynamics are changing. Poor little thing can't go in with the girls yet but we have him next to them. Normally there is just a bit of nose rubbing and you can see Mikey exploring to see if he can get to them. This morning though he was frantic and bit the bars and rattled them - if he could used bolt cutters we would be in trouble. The one nearest to him was Attie and she did stay up by the bars a lot. She then started shoving Juno around - the nose in the bottom move - which isn't like her. Just wondering if this means she is in season or if we have a bit of a group change ?

Thanks

The new presence of a boar and his pheromones next door can trigger a stronger season with sows; I have seen that quite often! Sow behaviour can change a lot in the run up to it. It will calm down again once they are settled down well together and have got used to being with each other except for the odd strong season.

Thank you - I think poor Mikey is awash with hormones so that would make sense.
