About a month ago Lily had a health check at the vets and everything was fine.

Recently though she has started rumbling a bit too much (she has ovarian cysts, last lot of injections about six months ago) so we booked her in for an ultrasound which is next Tuesday - four days away.

Last night she did a few straining noises and there is some blood in the cage. It did have a slight fishy smell initially but now just smells stale. We think it’s a uti but with her having ovarian cysts, we’re worried it could be from her reproductive area.

She’s done a couple more noises overnight and there’s more blood.

She’s already on metacam so that will be helping but also maybe masking?

She’s eating and drinking but she has been huddled up in a big hay nest more than normal. Her weight is sitting lower than normal lately but not by much. She’s 1050g and six years old approx.

Do you think Tuesday is too long away to wait for her appointment? I’m thinking it probably is but I don’t think they’ll be able to fit her in sooner for her ultrasound, it’ll be a consult if anything and probably not with our preferred vet but still someone who treats guinea pigs.

Thanks :(

Sad update.

We had to let Lily go yesterday.

I can’t face going into detail but basically - mass, prolapse, cancer will give you an idea. Options - surgery with slim chance of recovery or euthanasia.

We’re really shocked and devastated right now as you can imagine. We’re going to miss her so much.

I’m so sorry you had to let Lily go. It sounds like you made the right decision for her. Take care ❤️
