So i'm new to pigs, but run a rescue for rats. I got a call over a month ago from a lady who had a big rat living under her shed, eating her bird seed. She was affraid her cat would get it so could I please come and try to catch it.
I went, set up my trap, and within 24 hours, I caught a...... GUINEA PIG! some BIG rat huh? LOL
We decided to keep him, had him vet checked, named him Wazzi, and all is well... We built him a C&C cage, 2x4, knowing he'd need a friend. The way he has bonded to our dogs has proven that, so the hunt was on!
I came across an oopsie pet store bought girl who's new owners woke up to a cage full of babies about 12 weeks ago, and decided to adopt one of them.
This lil terd is hissing at me, my son, my husband, and our Wazzi! He ripped a chunk of fur from Wazzi yesterday... I'm doing intro's in the bathroom, no piggies have EVER been in there, no toys, just hay and veggies... Now the family we got lil guy from has 4 more males, and 2 of the 4 are much less aggressive. I'm thinking of maybe going back and getting one of them to try. This guy is just WAY too aggressive... Not to just Wazzi but us too...
*sigh*
We love this lil guy, and wanna make this work with him...
Any suggestions?

Hello and Welcome to the forum.

You may find these threads useful in your quest to bond the boys - though some simply will not tolerate each other and no amount of persuasion will help. 12 weeks is right at the start of the hormonal period for young males and this can (and often does) make things far more difficult when it comes to pairing up.

Have a read through the Boar Dating Service thread also as it may give you some other ideas to try, it's very long as it covers 2 yrs worth of piggy dating.

Suzy has given you links I myself used to bond my 2 boys succesfully. Does not sound too promising for your pair however. They would still have piggy company if you divided the cage so they could see, smell and hear each other but not actually live together. I've heard of other boy pairs living quite happily in this arrangement, some going so far as sleeping right next to each other by the divider - something they wouldn't do if the divider wasn't there.

I had this problem with a male i adopted called skitts to pair with ditto, it didnt work out he ended up attacking ditto after alot of threatening lunges and teethchattering.. He went back unfortunalty and ditto lives alone as he was depressed and wouldnt eat while we had skitts and as soon as he was gone ditto was back to his usual happy self... There was a quieter calmer baby rex (skitts was an abby) and i wish now id of chosen him, as ditto would most likely have a friend now. At the time though my partner refused to try anymore due to the vet bill the attack cost us :/ .. Anyway id give your baby a few days to settle as its all new to him as are you and your home if theres no change my personal advice would be to try one of the quieter less agresive/dominant pigs as if the baby is showing aggression now itl only be worse when he hits his hormonal stage..

That's what i'm worried about... waiting until it's too late...
i've spoke with the people, and they';ve asked me to stick it out until Monday, and if nothing changes, then I can try another baby... Keep your fingers crossed!

Well, the lil guy was spraying out the side of his cage... We decided to try a different pig...
We got a less dominant guy this time. So lets try this again...
Any suggestions?

all the advice suzy has posted should help you through but its just finding the right personality mix really. Good luck

well the new boy, we named Peso, is living VERY happily with Wazzi!
I'd attach a pic or two, but it says that I can't...

They are VERY happy!
