Terry boys

I have 2 boars at the moment Spike and Smudge there about 7mths old now. Yesterday when i went to P@H to buy some supplies i purchased another 2 male boars. I would like to introduce them and i don't know the best way to go about it. Smugde was a very quiet guinea hardly came out of his house. Since coming home he has been squeaking and coming over to the side of the cages. We have the cages side by side at the mo and there has been alot of noises.

We have named them Alfie(ginger and white one) Pip(tricolour). Pip is a very small compared to Alfie is which i think that he is a few months older. I will post some pics of the new ones when i get some.

What is the best way to introduce them all. Is it by placing them all in the run together?

Since you bought them in a pet shop you absolutely must quarantine them for 3 weeks. Not only to get them used to the sights, smells and sounds of their new home but because this is how long it can take for illnesses and skin problems to come out. If you put them together now, you risk the health of your other boys.

You will want to introduce them on neutral ground. I'm curious, how big is the cage they're all going to live in? You will need a LOT (an exceptional amount) of space and hiding places to get 4 boys to get along, though I'm sure it's been done.

A Nero 2 is really quite small for 2 piggies and you may find that if they're in there longer term you may have problems with space. The hidey house thing, if you're using it, even takes up more of that space so it's quite cramped. For 4 boars, I don't know if there's a hutch on general sale that will accommodate them. You will need something measuring about 70cm x 190cm (in my opinion).

Thanks it is only a short term with the nero 2 and nero 4. I know that i will have to build a cage for them to all be together. I know that the more space that they all have is best for them. The first 2 were housed together in P@H and the second 2 as well. I will slowly introduce them all over time.

Thanks for the advice i appreciate any that i get.

definately wait and see if the new piggies have any health problems before putting them anywhere near your boys. usually from i can gather(never had boys) it is hard enough to get 2 boars to get on let alone 4, especially when they hit the teenage stage and their hormones are all over the place. i would perhaps consider having 2 cages and try to pair up the piggies not a quartet. do it in neutral terrority and do it slowly, and if you have all four out for play time hope you are fast if there is an all out fight, as can happen with boys. if you are going to have 4 piggies to a cage it is best if you have 4 of everything- 4 bowls, 4 bottles, 4 beds, etc. wishing you luck. hugs and cuddles :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: girls send :-* :-* :-*
