Hi Everyone!

I adopted a two month old male piggie (Logan) on saturday and after reading a lot I'm seriously considering getting him a buddy.

Would a same age male piggie be a good friend for him? And hows the best way to introduce them? He's not comfortable at home yet after only a few days and thought having a friend would make the settling in process better for the both of them.

Really need some advice on this one, we're not 100% sure what to do for the best.

Much Thanks
Claire + Logan xx

Heyy,

personally i would recommend getting a younger one as older ones seem to take to them better.

This is only from experience, when i have gone in to one pets at home they have said to put older ones with one ths same age but i disagree.

Just depends on whether they get on, if you can find another male that isn't to dominant it will probs be ok but that is why i prefer going for younger ones with older...

Sorry, hope that helps.

x

Maybe you could try an older piggie in need of a home? As yours is only 2 months old you won't be able to get one too much younger. Same age may be ok to start with but could be trouble when they hit puberty. Or wait to have him neutured and get him a girlfriend. Easier to bond that way. It would mean him being on his own for a bit first but a girlfriend will make up for that in the long run ;)

Thanks! Thats been really helpfull, we're now considering looking at the rescue centre for an older male buddy for him, my boyfriend thinks neuturing is just uneccessary (I think the thought just scares him more than Logan :D)

Neutering boars takes only their ability away to make babies, not their instincts. So unless you are planning to pair up you boy with one or two girls eventually, it is completely unnecessary.

At 8 weeks old you can still bond your boy with an older boar. That will mean that only one boar is going through the stroppy months. Otherwise try to pair him up with another baby. But they will hit the "I'm the most macho man ever" phase together.

I would recommend going rescue if you can - you will get support as well as a piggy and have a place to talk to if things go wrong at any point.

Here is the Jersey SPCA address:

I paired up a 5 week old and a 7 week old with no problems at all. They were best friends straight away, with no rumblestrutting or anything. I think the problem is that when they become teenagers at the same time they could fight. Mine are ok so far, but one is not dominant at all, so not all pigs would be like that.

So a younger boy might work, and an older boy would probably work too.
