We have had our Spencer for about 5 months now :). But we were uneducated and got him as a single pig. He seems to be happy, if not a little anti-social, but we have been thinking about getting a new pig, seeing if that would maybe bring him out of his shell a little more. We're estimating that Spencer is about 6ish months old. Right now we have Spencer in a 2 story cage with the bottom being 3'x4' and the top being an L around one of the corners, so we're not concerned about room. We're just concerned about if Spencer has been on his own for too long and would reject a new pig, or if we still have time to introduce a playmate. Looking for any thoughts and/or advice. Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum - Spencer is gorgeous

It is wonderful you are thinking of getting him a friend, and if you can find a good match you really will see him blossom.
Guinea pigs are generally so much happier with another piggy companion, and we have had many members pair older piggies successfully.

Depending on where you are based trying to find a local rescue that offers boar dating would be your best bet.
This will allow Spencer to pick his own friend and also have an experienced rescue do the pairing for you.

Unfortunately his cage is really only meeting the bare minimum, and may even be a bit on the small side for 2 boars, who really do need as much space as possible. If you could post a photo of it this would help and people might have suggestions on how it could be extended.
Cage Size Guide

If you can let us know roughly where you are based maybe we can help direct you towards a rescue in your area.

:agr: The minimum for two boars is 150x60cm, or 5’ x 2’. Please make sure you can provide that space. If it’s tight, the alternative would be to set up a play pen that they’d have 24/7 access to.

Boars go through their teenage phase from 4-14 months. So just be aware that bonding may be a little fraught seeing as he’s 6 months. And it’s about character matching rather than age. I think I linked to some threads on your intro post...

Here is a picture of his cage. Please excuse the mess....it is laundry day for all members of the household. :)
(Also any suggestions for helping him keep his bedding in his litter box would be appreciated.)

And unfortunately there aren't any dedicated cavy rescues near us, we looked. :( We live in the states.
