Hello all,

Would much appreciate some advice.

I already have 2 10 month (roughly) old male pigs, they are both very friendly and get along very well. But I am moving in with my partner who also has 2 male pigs and wondered what would be okay with regards to living? Can they live together, given sufficient space?

A friend of the family also have decided to get rid of their 2 female guinea pigs that I think are a few years old. Me and my partner have agreed to take them if the family cannot find anyone else suitable (they want them to be well looked after)

So obviously I know about pregnancy etc, but can the male cages or cage (if they live together) be near the females or will it make them prone to fighting if they can smell the girls?

My grandmother had a female and male guinea pig live together with no neutering and the female never had babies, but I assume this might have been a medical problem and rare than they can actually live in mixed sexes?

Sorry quite a lot to answer there but any advice is greatly appreciated. I want to be fully prepared cage wise before we move in. :)

Hi there. Four boars cannot live together so it is best to stick to your two pairs. I would not even attempt to bond them as they could all fall out and would have to live separate.

If you always wash your hands after holding the girls and do not have the cage next to the boys then it should be okay. Guinea pigs cannot live in mixed sexes unless the male has been neutered or the female spayed. As you have a pair of boars that get on well there does not seem any point to put them through an operation.
