I recently got a 1 1/2 year old skinny pig from a friend who couldn't keep her anymore. She has been alone her entire life and is very skittish and reclusive. I was thinking of getting her a friend guinea but I don't know if that's a good idea since she has always been alone and might not do well with a new friend.
I've never had guinea pigs before so I'm not sure about them much.

I think she would absolutely love a friend. There are so many guides and so much useful information here that it won’t take you long to learn all you need to about Guinea Pigs :)

I recently (well kinda recently LOL) got my eldest pig Mo a friend. He was a year old and due to health scares and the first friend passing away he was alone for a while. Yet I too thought he'd be better off with a friend (though he isn't skittish he is very tame- as I'm sure she will be once she settles in :) ). It was the best decision I've made- sure there is times where I feel otherwise like when they have the odd bicker but all siblings do right? Haha.

So a girl skinny pig could either have a fellow female friend or a neutered male- obviously you don't have to get another skinny pig you could get another or a guinea pig. If you're worried, why not try a rescue who might bond your girl for you.

Hi and welcome!

The best way of finding out whether your girl gets on with another guinea pig or not is by dating her at one of our recommended rescues. This means that acceptance or even the whole bonding happens under expert supervision at the rescue and you come home with a new piggy only if there has been success. Mutual liking is key; age and gender (sow or neutered boar) are much less so.
We can guarantee for our recommended rescues that they all operate to a good standard and rehome only fully quarantined/healthy, guaranteed not pregnant and properly sexed guinea pigs, so you won't have any nasty surprises. As neither rescues or breeders require a license or receive any supervision, the results can be accordingly. We only guarantee for our vetted rescues.

Since we have members from all over the world, we find it helpful if you please added your country, state/province or UK county, so we can help you better with specific recommendations. click on your username on the top bar, then go to personal details and scroll down to location. This makes it appear with every post you make. Thank you!
