Ok, so Gadget is my eldest Guinea. She is about 7 months old now. 3 months later she was introduced to Gimmick, who is now about 2.5 months old.

There was quite an odd interaction between the two when I first put them together on neutral territory.

Gimmick would charge up to her and basically bite her, but without opening her mouth, or biting down. I would say it's more like a punch, but with her face. After 3-4 lunges by Gadget, she would then quiet aggressively smell her rear end. If Gimmick protested, or moved, she would get another swift and pretty hard whack. Then Gadget would move around to her face rumbling and lifting her head, then lunged 3-4 more times until Gimmick moved away. Now there is no blood drawn, and no pain expressed. (I know what the pain sound is after having a Guinea with Bladder Stones). They have been living together for 2-3 months now, and there haven't been any proper fights, the attacks still continue but Gimmick has learn't to run faster than Gadget. They don't sleep together and don't really have a very close friendship.

Now I have just got a new baby, FriarTuck, and tried to introduce her to Gimmick. Even though not to the same severity, Gimmick is expressing the same kind of behaviour on Tuck. These two seem to be more friends though, and will happily sit together. Except when I started to put them in the same cage (Trying to get these two to form a bond as they are closer in age and size)

I know this behaviour is probably completely normal. But I hear a lot about perfect bonds between piggies, or massive fights, not the inbetween.

There just seems to be tension, rather than harmony, it's not nasty or violent... It's just strained.

It does sound like normal piggy behaviour, I'm afraid I'm not knowledgeable enough to suggest anything that might help though. I hope they learn to all get along soon :). Good luck

We have had a few inbetween situations and they usually settle down quite quickly. Maybe you could add a neutered boar to your ladies as Sylvester our boar brought calm to our herd of sows.

There is actually another Guinea I want to go and effectively *rescue* he is lovely. They said he is an Alpacca. Although I am pretty sure I have never heard of that breed of Guinea before. But alas we have three already, and I have bought one guinea every 3 months or so. We currently have 2 cages joined together, but I don't think we have enough room for another now.

You can always think about building a two tier C&C cage if you want to go for more piggies - that will take less space.

Yeah we are considering that. I think the thing is, is four to many for our little one bedroom flat. But a C&C cage will take up exactly the same amount of space...

OOoh I so want to.

Alpacas are a lovely breed of guinea pig and I have always wanted one! Do you know if he is already neutered? As Weibke said you can always build up!

Your not helping to discourage me! I want him too! He is being kept in a cage with two bunnies and being fed rabbit food. Plus he has no where to hide, and hides behind the rabbits for protection. They don't brush him either. He isn't neutered, but I don't mind paying for that.

Sounds like he has won your heart!

I have been watching him be over looked for almost a month now... And I felt a little guilty letting my bloke choose Tuck over that little guy... But I loves Tuck too! Ooooh I feel mean now!

I still do
