Hi there, how do I go about introducing a pair of guinea pigs to another pair? They’re all boys

Hi!

I am very sorry, but with boar pairs the best intro to NOT to try bonding them.

Boar quartets have a near 100% fail rate unless they are all elderlies whose testosterone has run out or a combination of disabled/carer companions with different dynamics.

In most cases you'll end up with one working pair and two singles, but if you are unlucky, you'll have four singles that won't go back with any of the others again. The latter has unfortunately happened to a few desperate people coming on here. Your chances that all boys are getting on are about the same as big as them all falling out with each other - I have seen less than a handful in a dozen years that were stable for any length of time... :(

Please leave them as they are. Pairs are by far the best and overall most stable boar combination. :tu:

I’m so glad you asked, as to be honest trying to bond 2 pairs of boars into one quad is a recipe for disaster. The best advice is don’t even try it. As Wiebke has said you risk ending up with 4 single boars. If you have 2 bonded pairs it is best to keep them that way.

Thank you. It would have been introducing 1 year olds to my 6 month olds. I’Ve left the adoption place a message, I can’t risk upsetting the two I already have

Best leave that be - that is four teenage boys with the younger pair at the absolute peak of their life time testosterone output! :yikes:
Fail risk: 100%

I would be concerned at any rescue that thought this was a good idea.

She said she thought it’d be okay but to have a back up plan in case. It disappointed me that she seemed to know what I was telling her and was prepared to go ahead with it anyway

Are you able to tell us the name of the rescue?

Blue cross, she was nice and all but what I was telling her didn’t seem like it was new information.
