Sorry this is a bit long. So this is my first time owning two guinea pigs of the same sex (male) before I have always had one of each and just separated them. So now I have taken on the task of trying to introduce them. One of the boys is around I am guessing 3 months or so and the other I am judging by his size that he is around 6 months. I am guessing their ages because I adopted both from a pet store. One was too big and they couldn't sell him (so they say) and the other had had some medical issues. He had lost some hair I was told he was pulling it out but I have seen none of the behavior since I have had him. They had done a skin scraping to see if he had parasites and found none and nothing to be wrong with him other than they said he needed a high fiber diet which I am not sure I fully believe that either. I believe his issues were to be honest stress related. Sorry for the rambling back story and also I have never had guinea pigs this young before I have always had full grown adults. Back to my two boys they can see each through the cage and sniff and popcorn at each other etc. So I decided to today to try and put them together. I set up the play pen through some hay in cardboard rolls they seemed to get along for the first 10 minutes eating hay together just passing each other etc no aggressive behavior and then the nipping started and the chattering so I removed the little one because he was running for dear life. So my question is it good to do a slow gradual introduction like this each time or is there a better way to do it. I know they may never get along but I like to think that maybe they will someday :)
