I have gotten one guinea pig roughly three months ago. He was 8 weeks old when I got him, so I'm thinking he's about 6 months old, give or take.

I finally found a second guinea pig to introduce him to. So far, the introduction has gone well. After the inevitable period of one establishing dominance, they now lay together like they've known each other for months.
I forgot to mention, the second guinea pig was about 8 weeks old now. So, I think they're roughly three month age difference.

My issue, however, is I'm getting paranoid that I was told their sex wrong. Are they both too young to have a penis that protrudes outward when checked? I tried giving that check to see for myself that they're both males. Now I'm just worrying ones a female, or both female.

Here are the best pictures I could get of their genitalia. The left is the youngest one, and the right is the older one. Any input? I understand it may be difficult to give a guess without giving a physical inspection, but any input at all will be appreciated.

Hi!

You can do a physical inspection yourself in the more hidden areas, where the gender is much clearer.

Our illustrated sexing guide has pictures that show you exactly where to look and feel and how the test areas should look like.
We have included pictures of newborns, 2 week olds, boars with descending testicles and adults with fully descended testicles, including pictures of how they look when you check the inside of the genitalia opening at different ages in both genders. ;)
Click on this link here: Sexing Guide

- firstly, check the inside of the slit. With boars it is always straight and simply goes down. You should also be able to feel the descended testicles in your older boar and be able to express the penis (the pictures will show you how) at that age. the size of the testicles varies enormously in boars, but they all have a very noticeable large swelling to both sides of the genitalia.
Sows have a fleshy arrangement that seals the opening just below the surface when you pry the slit apart. The difference is very noticeable.

- secondly, if you cannot express a penis, feel for the presence or absence of a tiny penis shaft under the skin just above the penis button. Sows obviously don't have anything in that area; they are just flat.

If both these test come back with the same gender, you can be 100% sure that you have two of the same without having to rely on other people's guesses.
PS: It is easier if you have got somebody to hold the piggy for you.

My guess is that you have two boys, but I would not want to call it without a hands-on examination of the areas mentioned above.
Please check the boar bits in any boars over 4 months regularly. Here is our boar care guide with more boar pictures: Boar Care: Bits, Bums & Baths
