Just posting this to give advice on if your guinea pig has been diagnosed with urine infection and had baytril and anti inflammatory and there is no improvement,

My guinea pig Arnie is 4 years old and he was diagnosed with a urine infection, put on baytril and anti inflammatory, but after 3 days he was no better, he was worse and was constantly moaning, not eating or drinking, so we took him to an emergency vets and they said he has Cystitis, they gave him an injection, a strong painkiller which worked for a day and half, then again he began to moan, so thanks to this forum and information on it from @Wiebke we rushed to petsathome to buy CYSTEASE BY FELIWAY which was £14 from petsathome but its cheaper on amazon like 8, after one capsule mixed with 4ml of water, fed through a syringe, the next day he was starting to eat and drink water and having his veg and nuggets, after another capsule he was fully back to normal and eating weeing without any moaning, just as if nothing happened. If your guinea pig has any problems like mine had, and dont respond to treatment, i would defiantly try this, it was like a miracle, thank god to this forum and the information in it. I would say it saved Arnies life, as I'm sure the next step at the vet would of been to advise to put him to sleep

Hi

Glad that our information has been able to help. Please continue to give the glucosamine since your piggy will experience more flares. Sterile IC seems to specifically affect the protective natural glucosamine coating of the walls of the urinary tract that prevent highly corrosive urine from coming into very painful contact with raw tissue. You want to make sure that that layer is intact as much as possible.

But seeing how quickly they have responded to it, you are more likely dealing with a mild case; that is the good news. In the mildest cases, it can sometimes be enough to just have metacam and glucosamine on stand by to step in with any flare. You will have to work out where you stand over the coming weeks and months.
My Macsen has very mild stress-related sterile IC. He is asymptomatic for most of the time but can experience a flare in a stress situation, like the loss his wife or a bonding attempt failing. However, I did treat him with glucosamine for some time initially and then restart it if there is a major flare that is impacting on his immune system.

Yeah i did think it might be a mild case as being as it quickly helped, i will continue to give arnie for a week, and keep an eye and see if he starts moaning again, and if so, i will give a month then try and come off it again, and if its the case he needs it for the rest of his life, then i will. But like you say it looks like a mild case and will be an occasional flare up and treat as soon as i notice it. Yes thank you so much for the information, thank god honestly for this forum, it literally saved Arnies life
