Woody has recently started sneezing on and off and pawing at his nose like something may be stuck. I have experience with chest infections and have checked his lungs which sound clear apart from the slight wheeze that woody has due to scarring

I am going to call my vets tomorrow to see what can be done but I'm unsure of whether there is such thing as a nasal flush for piggies?

Obviously as their nasal passages are so small I'm unable to check there is anything stuck up there myself and I wouldn't want to prod around and make it worse!

Hi

Good that you have booked him in. It rather looks like that something has got stuck in the nose that is causing irritation and some dicomfort that cannot be just sneezed out; perhaps a bit of hay.

All the best.

My vet had a good look over woody and determined there's nothing blocking airflow through his nasal passages and there's no signs of discharge or over grooming on his legs (she explained they can get sticky legs when they are using the cleaning fluid they produce very often so it's a telltale sign!).

I am taking out the hay I suspect may have caused the sneezing to take place and as there is no discharge or wheezing we both thought this is the best option to try first! He is already on metacam so if it is an inflammatory response to the hay it should subside once the hay is removed

If this doesn't work the next option is a sedate deep nasal swab and a referral CT scan which I can't imagine is cheap 🥴🥴. 🤞🏻 changing the hay will do the trick.
