I can't yet pick her up off the floor without protest, yet I can ply her with lettuce onto my legs when i'm sat in the floor and pick her up from there, no problem
I've noticed that with my boys too! They don't like being picked up with bare hands off the floor or out of their cage. But whenever my 2 granddaughters & I sit on the floor with them, they love to climb onto somebody's lap from where we can pick them up no problem. Rather interesting piggy psychology!
They don't submit to me... but I respect it if they don't like being handled and will keep it to the necessary grooming/health check and a quick pet for as long as they will stand it. The main thing is that they trust me enough to tell me what they like. Funnily enough my biggest climbers have been those that didn't like to be cuddled.
That's Humbug to a 'T' @Wiebke, She's not a fan of handling, but comes to be picked up off the floor when she's had enough BonBon tries to copy, but is more lady like with the way she puts her front feet on my hand, letting me support her bum as I pick her up. I'm hoping Truffles will catch on, as originally it was just Humbug who did this.
Truffles loves lap time as much as floor time, Liquorice was the last real lover of lap time, Treacle took over when she passed, BonBon will sit for a bit but then get bored, Humbug gets real comfy, but five mins later is wanting to go on the floor.
